When I add coffee to my food diary, it comes up with 5 calories. I thought coffee, straight black coffee, is 0 calories? I drink A LOT of coffee. Am I sabotaging myself?

I have always thought the same but I log it as it shows in MFP - what does your coffee container label
say?0 -
on starbucks website a 16 oz coffee of the week (black coffee) shows 5 calories0

I noticed that on here as well. But even if you're drinking a whole pot, are the 20 calories really "sabotaging" your weight loss? Nah... I mean still log them and stay within your calorie goal but coffee is SOOOOOOO worth 10 calories to me!0

There are natural things in coffee that have minimal calories. It won't hurt you though.0

i put folgers into my food diary and i get 2 calories0

According to the USDA nutrient database - an 8 ounce cup of coffee (brewed from grounds) has just 2 (yes two) Calories. The calories come from a tiny amount of protein and some mono-unsaturated oils.
The coffee bean has oils in it (which is why a barista often needs to clean their espresso machine to prevent an oily build up). This is also why the Starbucks site shows 16 oz as 5 calories...there is probably just over 2 per 8 oz.0 -
all this coffee talk - gotta go get some!

i never log coffee, as its only 5 calories per cup about....I drink about 2 servings a day and figure I probably burn it off just walking around haha0
-
I don't log it either. I have at least 4-6 cups a day. I figure I walk it off with all the trips to the bathroom as a result of drinking all that coffee.0

I used to log it but I stopped b/c the can said it was zero calories. I drink about 3 mugs but I put milk and sugar in mine:bigsmile:0

Foods that are less than 5 calories can be labelled as 0, I think.
My mustard bottle said 0 but really it's about 4 calories a tsp (or tbsp, don't remember).
I doubt you're drinking enough coffee to even dent your weight loss efforts though, so don't worry about it :flowerforyou:0 -
Thanks y'all. I drink Community brand coffee - especially made in Louisiana. I LOVE THE STUFF. I do try to get in a few bottles of water a day, too. I just gotta have my coffee! Straight up black! I'm going get some now.
