Starting Insanity next week - tips appreciated

I just purchased Insanity today and should be getting it next week! I am excited, but I want to start it on the right path. Those that have done it so far, is there anything that I should do to get ready as well as anything else to make this program work? I wanted to do Insanity earlier, but since I haven't been exercising for a while, I thought I start out with something easier. I've since been exercising for the past two months using JM 30 day shred with a mix of outside biking, treadmill and elliptical. When I do the cardio with JM 30DS, I find that having a mat makes it easier on my joints and legs. Currently, I only have a mat that's quite long, but not wide enough and it moves around a lot when I use it. Is there an exercise mat out there that you'd recommend? I also read about drinking a recovery drink after insanity. I hate drinking my calories, so not sure if I want to do that. Would eating an apple after workout be sufficient enough?

Any other tips appreciated. Thanks!
