I try to stick to the FA annys diet of protein, veggie and salad. But I fall off.
I can't eat bread, pasta, rice. because of diabetes and allergies.
If I don't loose this weight, I'm gonna lose my leg or worse, my life.
I really could use your suggestions of what is a good, life long doable plan. I know there are no magic diets. I just want to know what worked for those of you who have done it. thanks, kc

well, in my case This forum and specialy the callorie journal helped me a lot in maintaining my callories, even with little exercise!
When i started my plan i was about 140kg i am now 126kg, i only walk for arround 30 minutes per day, and i keep my callories to what MFP tells me.0 -
I don't eat much pasta, rice or bread either. It's hard to go from eating one of them at every single meal to one or two occasionally. It helped me to go to nutritiondata.com and search for foods high in protein and low in carbohydrates.
Eat shrimp, lean beef, chicken, turkey, low fat sausage, veggies, eggs, cheese, fruit, nuts, olive oil and lots of seasonings. I also avoid beans, peas, corn and potatoes, as high in carbs. I do rarely eat some, but not so often. If I do indulge in carbs, I eat dreamfields pasta, brown rice and whole grain breads and cereals. But I limit it.

Well, after my complaining earlier this week, i went to be and cried and basically told God I'd had it with myself and I couldn't take it anymoe. The next day I went to kids school and the mom said, "we were just talking about you and how much weight you've lost. I told them about my prayer and one of them said she'd lost 40 pds on South Beach.
Well, to make a long story short, I went to the thrift store and bought it for 99 cents. I went shopping and laid in some veggies and lean meat and today, believe it or not, I am down 9 pds. Well, it's the 9 I gained but hey! I feel a liitle low blood sugar when I need to eat, otherwise I am feeling so much better and my diabetes numbers are awesome.
So thank you for your encouragement and thank God for hearing my prayers because I think he truly answered them. kc0 -
Don't forget to add in those things that keep throwing you off- whatever treat you like. It is best to include in your meal than to not eat it for several days then binge. I always keep my five favorite foods list. I used to include them everyday now I don't have to have them as much or have found better alternatives.
I hope the South Beach Diet works for you. I am currently trying to put something together for my sister who is borderline diabetic. It's usually better food choices and exercise that helps your blood sugar not necessarily losing all the weight.Well, after my complaining earlier this week, i went to be and cried and basically told God I'd had it with myself and I couldn't take it anymoe. Are you regularly testing your blood sugars? It really helps to be very "religious" (pardon the pun) about testing for a period of time, and trying out different foods to see what you are reactive to.
Everyone is a little different, so I am not going to say that what worked for me will work for you, but I was really surprised at how some foods affected my blood sugar and some didn't.
Examples: mac and cheese out of the box w/tuna, peas and a bunch of stir-fried peppers, onions and mushrooms--modest increase but within normal limits (WNL).
Fried rice (brown rice) with lots of veggies and shrimp, chicken, or beef--hardly any increase at all.
Multigrain bread w/no added sugars, plus 1tsp margarine + 1 tbsp all-fruit preserves--little increase.
"Fat-free" salad dressing -- pretty big increase
Prepared side dish (e.g. Country Ben chicken and rice): big increase
Commercial peanut butter--skyrocket
Whole grain pasta, or some "higher protein" pasta (whichever was on sale): WNL
Basically, as long as I ate whole grains, unprocessed foods, and made my own meals, my blood sugar levels were completely normal--I kept my portion sizes at an appropriate level for my calorie intake (1400-1700 per day at the time) and I maintained about 50% of my calories from carbohydrates (anything less wrecked my workout routine).
Again, these are just some general ideas, but I think it might be a mistake to assume that you must stringently avoid carbohyrdrates without testing various foods and meals to see exactly how you respond.

I agree with Azdak. I am borderline, my husband is seriously diabetic (but has ignored it for years). We have found that we can eat whole foods (unprocessed) with little affect on sugars. Stevia as a sweetener doesn't seem to affect sugar in us. But just about anything out of a box or can and we can expect an increase.0

It is quite interesting. Splenda my both of my aunt's blood sugar skyrocket. You would not think it would.
Also there is the food allergy issue, not to make things too complicated though.I agree with Azdak. I am borderline, my husband is seriously diabetic (but has ignored it for years).
