Saving calories??

Does anyone do this? I suspect that the best possible thing for our bodies would be to be consistent and not do this. I wonder though, if you ever save your exercise calories for the weekend or a special occasion? If so, so you do it on a regular basis or just every now and then? What have your results been? Just not sure what to think about this idea and would love some feedback...

Thanks

I don't , but I do think it's the net calories over a week that really matter, so if someone maybe eats a little less during the week and a little more on the weekend, as long as they meet their weekly calorie goal I don't see the harm. Assuming of course they maintain their macros as well.

I've never done this on MFP but when I did the old WW points system a couple years ago, it worked really well for me. I knew there would be at least one night a week where we'd want take out so I'd use my exercise and/or weekly allowance calories (pretty much the same idea as not using all your daily calories on here) on meals like that. I consistently lost weight that way so it can definitely work!

Give it a try and see if it works for you. Just make sure you do use them in some way so you're not undereating and if you're hungry, eat something, don't try to starve yourself and make up for it later or you may end up indulging more than you intend to out of hunger.

Yes I save my calories for evenings usually because that's when Im the hungriest. Also exercising gives me an extra meal sometimes when Im feeling famished. I think I had to listen to my body over time on whether I was really hungry or just wanting to eat out of boredom.
  • Yes I save mine for evenings also, or if I know I'm going to an event where there will be lots of food. I think its better to do this than to eat normally all day and then splurge anyway at the end of the day. Its all about the calorie deficit in the end, it doesn't matter WHEN you eat them.

I've been saving calories for a year and a half. Seems to work ok.

Me too - I can't resist picking in the evening so I save some for snacking then - MFP is perfect for keeping track and NOT cheating too much!!

I don't save them. Each day is a new day. If I go over one day, I may try to stay under the next. But I don't look at a previous day and think "YES! I get 456 extra calories and 13g of extra protein today!!!!!"

Yes it works, it all comes down to your average at the end of the week. I don't do it on purpose but I have high days/low days and it all averages out at end of week...down 106 lbs thus far.
  • Its funny reading this. I posted last week how I like to keep my Calories over 1000 during work so I have more for Dinner. I use it as motivation to take a short 15 minute walk during the day if I go below. The other day someone brought in cookies so I had to walk to burn off the 1 cookie I had. Never quite sure what is for dinner at night and I would hate to have 200 calories left and have to eat too little..

Sounds like good planning to me. That's the way to do it.
