Evening all,
I've often considered a pull up bar for home use but my flat is a new build and I've never been convinced the construction would be strong enough :o)

Does anyone have any advice/experience of how to choose the most suitable?

Ta muchly :o)

If by flat you mean the area over the door, then mine is the same way. I don't feel it is strong enough to support my weight, so I bought one that mounts from frame to cram instead of it hanging from the top.

The only downside to this is the you might not be able to close the door after it is mounted.
  • I think the ones that go inside the door are the better option too. I don't have a new build now but have done previously and I wouldn't trust the walls too much either!!

I've got one that goes between the door frame (where the door goes)

After some quite amusing mishaps where the bar slipped I drilled 8 mm holes in the frame and put in bolts that just easily slide in and out to stop the bar sliding down - when you take the bar down you hardly notice the holes.

I think the ones that hook over the top of the frame run the risk of ripping it down - but I think they come with plates you can screw in the wall. They look better from a range of motion - but what I have is better than nothing
