Weight training day after HIIT workout?

I did an intense HIIT workout yesterday, full sprinting 1 min and walking 1 min 20 times. Im very sore, but not from lifting and I know youre supposed to wait 48 hours when youre sore from lifting to lift that muscle group again. Does that go the same for soreness from intense cardio workouts? Should I wait 48 hours to lift after my HIIT workouts if im sore?

I do HIIT on my in between days. My rule is that I don't do squats if my legs are too sore. I didn't want to over train or injure myself. If you can barely walk maybe rest a little longer.
I just started and I follow the 2:1 (work/rest) for my intervals. 1 min mountain climbers or jumping jacks, 30 sec jog in place. I only manage about 6 intervals when I do the mountain climbers.
I've read that HIIT should be between 9-20 min total with warm up/cool down. Anymore can cause you to over train and start storing fat. Like I said I am new to HIIT.0
