Of all people, I should know better, but I fell for it again.

The old "it SEEMS healthy, therefore it must be" assumption.

And you know what they say about when you ASSUME.....

Took a trip to visit my stepson at college. It's a 400 mile drive, 1/3 on 2 lane roads and lots of construction, so it's a 7-hr trip. Last time we did it, I packed food, but this time I was not able to do so. Did OK the first half (no real snacking) and then stopped for gas and lunch. Went to Arby's.

Got the Market Fresh Pecan Chicken Salad Sandwhich -just the sandwhich, no extras. Little concerned about the size, but, hey, it's MARKET FRESH! C'mon. Could have asked for a nutrition list, but this was one of those restaurant/gas station combos in northern wisconsin--I was just hoping they washed their hands.

Got home and, just for fun, decided to look it up. 870 Calories. Ouch. I was thinking 600 tops.

Not an earth-shattering mistake, just annoyed at myself for being so lazy about checking first.

  • Those "healthy" sandwiches always get you. Does it to me as well! Don't be too hard on yourself though. It happens to the best of us!

I had the exact same experience with the exact same sandwich.

A big problem with it is that it's SMOTHERED in mayo. I had to actually wipe some of it off, it was so gross.

    Thanks for the kind words.

One of the nice things about being part of this community is that I don't always have to be "professional". And I am in the position where I am not only giving out info in the abstract--this is my *personal* journey as well.

So, here, I get to be human as well, which I really appreciate.

Hey--If we can't poke fun at ourselves, who can we poke fun at?

I eat out so rarely anymore, that I was just not thinking clearly.

We took my stepson to Taco Bell--they did have nutrition sheets available. Took me 15 minutes to order

Chicken Burrito Supreme al Fresca: I'm sure massively overpriced at $3.49, but only 340 calories. Unfortunately, nothing else to go with it that wouldn't push the total up over 500-600 which I did not want to do, seeing as we were going out for dinner as well and I was taking a day off from exercise (didn't want to bother w/crappy hotel exercise equipment and needed a day off anyhow).
