I have been doing MFP for a month, workiing out 4-5 times a day and for the most part staying within my calorie allotment. I saw a little decrease, and then of course my period came, and I am back up. I am trying to stay motivated, and do feel better, but I wish I could see the scale reflecting all of the hard work. This is so much harder now, I am 46, than it was just 6 years ago. Why is it so much harder to loose weight the older you get:sad: ???

You lose muscle mass as you get older if you haven't been working out...and your metabolisim slows down.

Keep moving, and start building that muscle! Strength training becomes very important as we age.

Read about cell function, insulin, and hormone production. Also do a google search for "fatty liver." Metabolism / endocrine function is a fascinating subject...weight gain is usually attributed to "aging" but much of it occurs on a cellular level and certainly can be reversed to a degree.

I think menopause or pre-menopause is the biggest reason! Been there and still work against daily! You say you are logging your alotted cals, drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water and exercising 4 to 5 times per "DAY" ??? If you are working out that many times a day, you are probably not getting enough cals and therefor in starvation mode or you may have a thyroid issue (hypothyroidism) which needs to be medically dealt with!! But if you typed a misprint and it was to say 4 to 5 times per "week" then maybe take a look at the effort you put into your workout. "WHAT" do you do for exercise, "how hard "do you push yourself and for "how LONG" do you actually push yourself! Also if you don't change up your exercise your body gets set once again, so do different cardio programs use the resistance, use the inclines etc;;! But whatever you do "DO NOT" quit and go back to where you were ! You can do this and I hope you get alot more post's to help you out!! Hang in there!!!

We lose muscle after age 30. Therefore we cannot focus on just cardio.

Exactly true! I lift for 1 to 11/2 hrs three times per week but do cardio six days per week!!
