I am going to visit a friend in NC Sept 19-24th. We are looking into going to Virginia Beach for a couple days.

Will it be warm enough to swim?
Will it be a ghost town?

Any tips/advice on places to go/stay/eat?

Thank you!

I absolutely love VA Beach! I'm from NH, but when to school down there. It'll still be plenty warm! There will still be tourists, but not nearly as many as there are in August. I don't care for the Ocean Front though, I always went to a "private" beach (Chick's Beach). Shore Drive has great bars and restaurants, I highly recommend Chick's Oyster Bar, on the water seating and great food! Have a blast! I'm jealous!

It won't be a total ghost town, but the strip will be somewhat quiet. The ocean front will definitely have more people than the bay side. But I too prefer the bay side. We go to Sandalwood. That's not far from Chick's Beach.

Bars/restaurants along the bay (on Shore Drive) are geared more toward locals. Dockside, Bubbas, Chick's, etc., are all great places for a good bear and good crabs.

I grew up there and I've been back to visit during mid-September as well. Warmth can be hit and miss. With the way this summer has been though, I suspect the water will still be warm enough. Average water temperature for September is 72.
