treadmill calorie burn accuracy

ran and walked on my treadmill this morning. when you've completed your run it gives you the calories burned. i was on it for 30 minutes and it said my calorie burn was 185. how accurate do you think these things are? sounds pretty true to me.

They're not that accurate - few things are. Even a Heart Rate Monitor is an estimate.
As a rough guide, for me, 600 cals an hour is absolutely flat out, so 30 minutes of walking/ jogging would be about 150-200, so your reading sounds like it's in the right area. Depends on your weight and a few other factors too.0 -
thanks melanie. i always try to err on the conservative side. thats why i thought that 185-ish sounded normal. i have no idea how to put running 4.5 mph into the exercise data base. i'm just not a computer person!0
