Hypothetically, a tattoo...

If you are getting a tattoo because you WANT people to see it, you are getting it for the wrong reason.0

Good.
(Because that's an incorrect supposition.)0 -
Its only a mid life crisis if you get one because you think it'll make you appear younger or 'cooler'.
Otherwise, there's no age limit!0 -
My mom got her first and only tattoo at the age of 50... I paid for it
She got a simple 4 leaf clover on her hip, for good luck and we are irish...no one can see it unless she shows it to them or is wearing a bikiniwhich she does have the body for!!!!

I know I wasn't being clear. I already have a back tattoo... it's just not the sort of thing that's liable to be seen (or should be seen, if I'm honest) by friends, coworkers, etc.
My mistake. Let me be more clear. Who the f^(k cares if other people think your new tattoo is a mid-life crisis thing or not?! You want another? Do it and quit whining about what other people think.0 -
You’ve asked the question, and clearly care what people think.
You’re too late you’re already having one, a midlife crisis that is.
Got my first at 30, didn’t give a flying monkeys what people thought. Still don’t0 -

Who's whining?
I'm asking a simple question. The answers which I will take into consideration.
Time of the month?0 -

I think you'll find that most people do care what others think, to some degree.
But there's a difference between caring and letting it drive you.
But thanks for the comment.0 -
I got my first at 39. My second two weeks later. My third seven months later, and my 4th a few months ago.
I don't consider any of them a mid-life-crisis thing. I consider it a "I finally stopped giving a damn," coupled with, "I finally decided what designs I'd like to have."
I have a few more designs in my head, but haven't drawn them up yet.0 -

That's amazing. Being completely unartistic myself I would need an artist to bring vague hand wavy ideas to fruition.0 -
I think it has more to do with what tattoo you are getting.
If you get a douche tattoo, 30.
A sentimental one, never.
Sleeves and murals, 40.
Nekkid ladies or gambling - 50

so is it ok to get nekked ladies when your 23??? (was 23 a LONG time ago)0 -
I am 42 and my wife has been bugging me to get one.
She is slowly wearing me down.0 -

No no no!
What should I get, please tell me, is entirely another thread!0 -
Anyway, I'd get the text too.0

I am 42 and my wife has been bugging me to get one.
She is slowly wearing me down.
What does she want you to get?
Now, IF I do get one, it ABSOLUTLY wont be a lame "Jersey Shore" tat.
No barbed wire or tribe bands.
For a long time, I have pictured a hammerhead shark starting from my left elbow and swimming up to about the middle of my arm and then above that, a SCUBA diver swimming up and away from it to my shoulder.
Lots of colors.0 -

That sounds quite interesting.
And I agree about the tribal or barbed wire. Though I haven't seen Jersey Shore, I just intuitively know...0 -
you get ink for yourself. where you place it could mean nothing, it could mean EVERYTHING!!! but, it's for YOU!!!
your age should be of no significance, even if you're getting a tattoo for the first time.....0
