I see a few people on my friends list talk about how they binge, they can't help it. I know EXACTLY how that feels especially if I'm really really hungry. I just wanted to share for anyone looking for motivation. Something that helped me was writing down almost everything in my house that I ate, in a journal, then next to it writing down the serving size and then the calories. You can search through that page and see what you want to eat BEFORE you're tempted to reach for everything or just anything you see, and that way it's easier to keep track. I also recently just started ONLY eating the serving size presented on box (maybe 2 depending on what it is and If I'm well under my calorie goal).
Does anyone else have any suggestions?

I make tea or drink Powerade if I feel like I just need to have something flavored in my mouth. Then I get away from the kitchen and distract myself somehow. Additionally, I write in a journal (just a Word document actually) about how I'm feeling. That always helps. I was actually diagnosed with BED last year so I totally understand how crappy it can be, but right now I haven't binged at all for like 6 weeks.0

having other people around, but thats hard to do 24/7.
Try to not skip meals.
Lately ive been thinking of getting a sponsor and going to OE meetings.0 -
I drink water, added with a touch of mint or lime or lemon...something to flavor it. Its like I have to have a flavor going in my mouth to quell the urge to binge. Once I drink at least 6 cups of water...I ask myself if I still am hungry or if I am ok. If I am hungry, I look at my veggies and tell myself that if I want to eat I have to eat the veggies and some protein... yogurt, some jerky etc.
That tends to quell the need to binge at least for me,0 -
Keeping "binge" foods out of the house - avoiding the thought that "I'll buy this and just have it one serving at a time" when I know I'll eat the whole pack/box. I just don't buy it.
Drinking a ton of water.
Making tea or coffee instead (careful with the latter as milk/creamers/sugar add up, also caffeine is a drug.)
Question my thinking, "Am I really hungry, or do I just WANT to eat?"
Remind myself, "I only want to scarf this down because I'm tired/emotional/trying to cope/bored and it will NOT make me feel any better, it is not worth it."0 -
Keeping trigger foods out of the house has been really helpful, as has writing down what I'm feeling when I feel like I want to binge. Also, I keep a photo with a great quote on my computer desktop, on the pantry door and on the refrigerator door--"Don't sacrifice what you want most for what you think you want right now." It makes me stop and think, "Wait a minute, I'm not hungry/I've already had enough...is it worth it?" and every time so far, the answer has been "Hell no!"
I've been binge-free for 3 weeks (which doesn't sound like long, I know), and it does gradually get easier when you've started to reprogram your way of thinking about food.
I'm making brownies tonight because I want one. Normally I'd eat the entire pan by myself within a 24-hour period--instead, I've opted to bake a bunch, have one, save a couple for my husband and take the rest to my evening class tonight to shareThat way I still get the food I'm craving, but it is portion-controlled and I can't binge on it.

I refuse to keep binge foods in the house. I KNOW I cant behave with certain foods so I dont want them near me. Two that come to mind that will cause an automatic binge is M&Ms and something we call "Poor Mans Gravy" over boiled potatoes. OMG I LOVE that stuff. Its heart attack in the making for sure.
The other thing that stops me from ANY binge is that horrible icky nassy sick Im gonna puke OVER full feeling I get when I eat too much of anything.0 -
absolutely nothing does!! Sometimes maybe your body sends a signal that it needs food.... I agree with other people, If you don't have the type of food to 'abuse' it makes it tougher. then you really are at fault if you take the time to drive to the store to get something you know you should avoid.0

If I feel like binge on something it's usually because I am upset about something. I then look to see why I am mad, upset, and the other emontions.
If, by chance, I am turely feeling like I really want to eat something I then check my calories.
If...I lack the calories. Forget it.
Then it's back to good old water!
Mostly, it's sorting through my emontions and understand the reason why I am turning to food and bingeing to feel better.
Edit: At times the snack machine wins over my will power and I dive right into one snack.0
