Need to overhaul my diet

I need to change the way I eat but I'm not sure how to begin. A little background...

I was a very healthy eater in college and worked out 4-5x a week. I'm 5'8 and had no trouble maintaining around 130-135lbs. Enter marriage and motherhood! I have a 2 yo and a 7 month old. I have been walking 3-4 miles a day for the last month. I'm on day three of the 30 day shred. I have lost 5 pounds in the past 6 weeks. It would be more if I could rein in my food! I'm not sure how to eat healthfully when I have a high calorie requirement. My 7 month old is just starting solids, but I would guess 90% of his calories still come from nursing. He's 21lbs so he drinks a lot. Im currently 148lbs.

I went from living on fruits, veggies and oatmeal to now eating a lot of high calorie foods.... Ice cream, cookies, lots of carbs. I'm still eating fruits and veggies, but I'm so much hungrier than I was before kids. I can't get by anymore on healthier low calorie foods without getting really hungry. I basically need to learn how to eat healthfully while getting in the calories I need and hopefully not feel starving. Today I did wonderfully, then tonight was just so hungry and ate cake and ice cream and cookies.

Anyone know of any websites, books, or advice to offer? I want to cut out white and processed foods, but I need to know what to replace them with. Thanks!

Read the book Engine 2 diet. It is a very interesting book, and a great way to look at health and eating more healthy! All the healthy recipes in the book, are made for firefighters so they are very filling and nutritious. It would be a great start`

"The Eat Clean" diet is a good place to start too with cutting out processed foods.

Read the book called PUSH by chalene Johnson...she is a great motivator....

I am not a new mother (4 kids, youngest twins who are 10) but I too 5'8" and BK weighed 130 w/ no problem....and I didn't eat good foods. I ate whatever I wanted and never gained..

    enter kids....and age....

and so I've had to totally re-educate myself on what I can eat that tastes good and what i should eat...

What I did was to take my calorie goal for the day...1200 and then I decided I would aim for 3 300 calorie meals....w/ 2 150 cal snacks..

Then I made menus w/in those calorie ranges - so I have 3-4 different menus for breakfast and I rotate them...

same for lunches and dinner. One mistake I used to make, which sounds like you might be making, is that i used to try not to eat meat because I assumed that it was too high in calorie BUT if you use lean meats, and watch your portions then you are actually better off because you stay full longer and don't want to raid the kitchen...

if you want more specific info about what foods I've discovered and replaced, etc feel free to friend me...

When you find yourself sooo hungry at the end of the day or whenever, dont gorge on cake, cookies, and ice cream. Eat more healthy food.
