What's so bad about dairy?

In my browsing of these forums, I've noticed a lot of people saying they've cut dairy out of their diets...but why??? Greek yogurt, skim milk, and cottage cheese are some of my favorite low calorie foods! Could someone explain to me the benefits of going dairy-free?

I don't know about others, but I choose not to eat dairy for ethical reasons (vegan).

Its not bad depending on who you are. Some of the reasons aren't good ones either but they well include
You shouldnt drink things pumped with hormons (there r none in canada)
You shouldnt drink things with animal hormones (even though they are recommended for having hormones close to humans)
    Your mean to cows
You can get your calcium other ways so there is no need for it (but find me a calcium thing that contains all the aminos like milk does?)
    Alergies/intolerences
It can but does not always contain cow puss (yeah cause all the other food we eat is plenty clean...and hasnt been peed on or under someones armpit in the grocery store or contain bugs...)
Theres almond milk (I drink that but then Im lacking protein and I exercise so I need more then "lowest value to avoid deficiency" as wikipedia describes 46grams)
    Theres rice milk (yuck)
Theres soy milk (yuck and health reasons no)
Allot of cheese is proccessed crap (I make my own)
Allot of yogurt has added augar (I eat plain)
    Etc etc

I drink dairy because it gives me protein and nutrients Im often lacking by the end of the day.

It all depends in which medical site you want to believe. You can always find reasons on either side of anything. If it works for you do it.

Aside from those who are ethical vegans or those who follow a plant-based diet, there are a lot of people who have a sensitivity or intolerance to dairy.

^^unless you fall into one of the above categories, there is NOTHING wrong with dairy. Not one thing. :drinker:

I'm allergic to whey and casein proteins. My immune system attacks them like a virus and I get sinus infections and/or bronchitis. But I do eat cheese and Greek yogurt as tolerated...

Nothing wrong with it, but I have fallen in love with Almond Milk in my cereal and coffee...gives a unique flavor (for less calories!)
But I still eat greek yogurt and gouda!

AND sometimes milk too. LOVE dairy, LOVE milk! If I could give someone who don't wanna eat dairy my allergy and drink it, I would. Life is cruel sometimes...sigh... lol

My body handles it fine so I enjoy lots of varieties of cheese.

I'm not sold on the benefits of drinking milk so I just don't.

Take the cheese out of my scrambled eggs and bacon and I won't be happy ;)

Also even those with intollerences to some dairy doesnt mean all dairy is bad for them. For example, whey isolate can be consumed even iff lactose intollerant (as the lactose is removed)

Hmmm. Web MD is usually a good site, but I would take with a grain of salt anything on a Wisconsin dairy farmers website. :)

Not getting into the animal rights arguments, there's hormones, pus (yes, it happens, the cows get utter infections all the time — ask any breastfeeding mom about mastitis), many people are allergic, it encourages the production of phlegm, and believe it or not, it actually tends to help leech calcium from bones, rather than help build strong ones. Calcium is greta for bones, yes, but the rest of the stuff in milk negates it. Which is one of the contributing factors for why the countries with the highest dairy consumption also have the highest rates of osteoporosis.

I'm not vegan but I do avoid it as much as possible because of ethical reasons as well.
