PCOS Success

I've been a lurker (I'm shy even on the internet :blushing: ) but this site has been a godsend and I hope my pictures and story will inspire the way all of yours has inspired me.
In 2007 I went from 110 lbs to 138 lbs in less than two months. I found out I had PCOS. The quick weight gain is caused by insulin resistance. I lost 20 pounds in 2008 w/ meal replacement bars & two/three workout sessions a day. I gained it back in 4 weeks when I tried to go back to eating normal meals and exercing only a few times a week. I was so depressed. I didn't want to try anymore. By January 2009 I was 144 pounds. I am barely 5 feet tall and have a very petite body so I was very miserable. I've always been a happy & giggly person and I wasn't smiling anymore. I was at the dentist and the assistant took my blood pressure and had this look of horror on her face, she took it again and asked me if I was feeling okay. I went home that day knowing I had to do something. I had signed up for this site but hadn't used it so I started. This is my success so far....
I'm happy to say that I'm very smiley again.
I've had to accept that there are a lot of foods that will never be more than the occassional treat every once in awhile but I'm finally okay with that. Being healthy and fit feels so much more wonderful than any food will ever make me.

Thanks! It's okay to mess up as long as you keep believing you can reach your goal. My favorite Gandhi quote is this one...
"Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I can not do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire that capacity to do it. Even if I may not have it at the beginning."
good luck0 -
Congrats on your success so far! You look so happy in your second picture!! And thanks for that Gandhi quote - I love it!0

Congrats... I too have PCOS and its a battle. My doctor has me on BCP and a diuretic and some facial cream. I didn't want to take any of it but I'm giving it a try. I have lost 42 lbs so far. Good luck:flowerforyou:0

It's definitely is a battle! One that you are winning!! WOW your pics are inspiring. Do you gain very easily too? I decided to not take anything but only because I am very sensitive to a lot of medications and chemicals. Even if I didn't have an initial reaction knowing me I would get one eventually. :grumble:0 -
You look amazing!!! I also have PCOS. Weight loss can happen it just takes a little extra work for us. Congratulations you are doing GREAT!!0

I do not have pcos but one of my best friends does and she has learned how to handle it which is great,
I agree that it is too easy these days to ake bad decisions and if your like me you will just think well I knew that it would happen eventually...
My son was born in Oct of 2007 and for the last 2 years I have been struggling with severe depression and anxiety... which is the main cause of my overeating I think because I look for any little thing to make me happy and there are certain foods that give you that satisfied happy feeling... But its just temporary. Temporary happiness is never worth it, I decided it is time for me to think about long term happiness and even though this journey will be hard and frustrating it will be totally worth it in the end. This is for me.... not my son, fiance, family, or friends (because they all already love me the way I am). This is what I want and I need... I just want to feel good about myself and love myself inside and out and actually go into a fitting room and not come out depressed and frustrated..
I want this, I need this, and I am ready for this lifelong change.
Congratulations to you, you have made so much progress it is inspiring, and you look amazing!
Hopefully I will remain as determined and self motivated as you.0 -
I know you will all reach your goals!
I'm a "bad" carb and fried food lover and my husband seemed to love me more the bigger I got so he was no help!
I made a folder in my facebook called "diet accountability" and every night when I finished my MyFitnessPal food log I used a screen capture program to save an image of it. Then I uploaded it to the folder where all my family and friends could see what I ate. I can't tell you how many times it kept me on track just because I didn't want to be embarrassed that I ate a whole box of pretzels or something like that. LOL!0 -
Good Job!! :bigsmile:0

AW THATS A GREAT IDEA!
whatever works best for you is what you should do.. =]
My biggest problem is just always staying motivated.
I do not know whats different this time but I know that I am going to reach my goal.
What I could never give up was soda and over month ago I just decided that I was going to drink nothing but water (and milk only in cereal) and I havent had any soda for a month in a half (except 1 gulp of sprite which I do not count because it does not contain caffeine) I have gone through 3 cases of water but its alot healthier and cheaper than cases of soda! best of all I have always hated water but somehow it just grew on me =]
so october 12th I was thinking about how I did this and couldnt believe it so I knew I was ready to take it farther and limit more than soda!
I have noticed I have been really happy the last few days I guess its the feeling that I have probably already lost weight but as tempted as I am to step on a scale I wont because I am waiting until 10/26 (exactly 2 weeks from when i started) because I have a small feeling that if I step on there and do not see any weight lost than I wil become unmotivated and also because it goes me something to look forward to Im looking forward more to my weigh in days than my bday, thanksgiving or xmas! :laugh:0 -
Awesome sucess! Thanks for posting pics - that is a GREAT inspiration to me, you look great!0
