How 2 Gain Weight if you are Skinny & Like Exercise?

...this is for my man!
He is a skinny minnie! He doesn't like to eat much....and he loves only "healthy" foods!
He would like to gain about 10kg / 20lbs.
I try to cook for him DAILY....but he can only eat so much and actually listens to his body's "full sensor" and stops before full.
He can also go ALL day without noticing he hasn't eaten! I have tried and tried....
but I would like to suggest a REAL way for him to GAIN weight.
I said 1st step is "force feeding" yourself.
Everyday he rides the bike to work! That is at least 1 hour bike riding a day...then he goes to gym twice a week and does about 30min jogging (he can't help not doing it though i tell him not to jog!) PLUS weight lifting.....and then on the weekends he will jog for yet another minimum 1.5 hours - 2 or more!!!
He says "jogging makes him happy".....
IS THERE A GENIUS OUT THERE WHO CAN HELP ME....help him see "how he could start" a weight GAIN programme?

So he doesn't want to exercise less or eat more food?
He won't be able to gain weight.0 -
He has to make just as much of a conscious effort to gain as someone who wants to lose has to make a conscious effort to lose. And he has to really WANT to gain.
If he can't eat any more, can he drink more? Protein powder mixed with full fat milk? I like adding vanilla powder to chocolate milk when I need extra calories and protein.0 -
I would suggest protein shakes with full milk?
He needs to plan ahead for his meals. And eat above his TDEE. I bet once he gets used to eating more, it will easier for him.0 -
Try adding higher fat condiments and ingredients to the things you make, so he wouldn't be eating more food but it would have a higher calorie amount, if that makes sense. Also, he could drink his calories. There are some quite high calorie drinks out there too. And I agree that he has to want to gain weight - it takes just as much effort as somebody who wants to lose, as said.0

Get him to set up an account with MFP, set his goal to gain, and track his food and exercise. He'll soon see what he needs to do.
Oh, and buy peanut butter.0 -
1/ Eat quickly.
2/ Eat white carbs.
3/ Do nothing so he's bored easily and resorts to eating.
4/ Come back in a year asking how to lose weight.0 -
He can start with basics. Consuming calorie dense foods like walnuts and almonds, peanut butter, olive oil. Lean meat for upping his protein intake. This is what I never do but one huge martial artist friend do every morning: Egg whites as many as you want (at his own risk, protein powder if he's not comfortable with drinking raw egg whites), 1.5 cup full milk, one large banana, 2 tbsp peanut butter, (1 tsp honey if the former mix isn't too sweet for him already). Mix them in blender.0

Exactly he does need to make a conscious effort to gain. It takes work and commitment to gain in a healthy manner. (Which means not just eating lots of shiz which will just make you fat!!)
He needs to look at his eating habbits, and at what he is eating, there are higher Cal choices that are still healthy. He may need to consider taking up weights so he can gain some mass. If he joins mfp it deff can help and there are a lot of gainers on here! It can be done, even with exercise, I already gained 10lbs and plan to do a proper bulk and cut in the winter.0 -
There is something called GOMAD designed for hard gainers, or people who stay skinny but want to bulk.
Eat whatever it is you eat per day but add
Gallon
Of
Milk
A
Day
Full fat for 30 days.
Some have said protein shakes plus full fat milk. Too much protein. The amount of protein from a gallon of milk is just about perfect.
When I was 21 I would have qualified for doing a GOMAD, no longer the case.0 -
i don't know what its called, but isn't there some sort of protein shakes/powders body builders and rugby players use (not steroids haha!) and if you drink them you get really bulky and put on a bit of weight? and if i recall correctly, if you don't exercise whilst using it you get really fat so maybe slip some of those in his drink without noticing
or just ask him to drink it :P either way, it should make him put on weight whilst building muscle from all the exercise he does!
(sorry for not knowing the names of the shakes/powders, i know nothing about things like that haha)0 -

Yep there is also the "mass gainer" shakes which are hugely high in carbs usually, They can be handy to have on hand as well.0 -
well he has an MFP account...BUT he fails to log in...he puts in "generic calories" as he cant be bothered to log all the mac'S...
and yes I told him ...it is just as hard to gain as it to lose...and takes JUST as much dedication.
I think what someone said was right...he really "has to want to gain".
i think he is AFRAID of getting FAT!!!!....and needed to use MFP to lose!
The GOMAD sounds lovely....:-)0 -
and I hope he isnt reading this..but i DID use to slip in extra oil in food.... hehehe!!!0

LOL Yeah I used to do this with my kids!
But seriously, there is a huge difference between getting fat and gaining weight, its just all about how you do it, and logging things properly is so important.
Nice for you to try but he will only do it when he's ready!
Good luck!0
