I'm running my first ever 5K race tonight (at 6:30 pm) and I'm not sure how to handle eating. I usually run first thing in the mornings with only a couple of sips of water. We want to have a snack or something before we go and then we'll get something after the race. Any suggestions on what to eat so that I'm not bogged down but have enough energy to run?

Bagel with peanut butter and/or a banana should give you more than enough energy and not feel like a gut bomb. Good luck! You'll do great!

This morning, I had the following shake about 2 hrs before my race: whey protein isolate, cocoa, pb2, cream and unsweetened almond milk. It was soooooo good and gave me the energy I needed to go throughout the morning.

ETA: I had a half banana immediately after the race. And don't forget to hydrate all day long!

I had a banana and a few pretzels and about a quart of water two hours before my 5k today. That's roughly what I do most of the time... just enough to keep me from being hungry and with enough time before the race that it's not sloshing around while I run. So far it's worked fine, but I've noticed that the more I run the less it bothers me to drink immediately before or during runs.
