I worked out for 40 minutes yesterday 20min elliptical and 20min stationary bike. It gave me 640 calories burned does that sound right? That seems like an awful lot for just 40 minutes. Should I be going off what the machines say or MFP?

don't go off of the machines and it would be better if you could get a heart rate monitor instead of using MFP's numbers

In my experience, the machines overestimate calories burned. I am very lucky to burn 10cals/min, so 640 for 40 minutes sounds like an awful lot.

640 is what MFP gave me. The machines gave me about 200 less then what MFP was estimating. So do I go with the machines or go with the overly large number MFP gave me??

I don't try to accurately count cals burned with exercise myself, but from what Katie has posted, it sounds like the machine was much closer than the mfp estimate but possibly still high.

Pick one and strict too it for consistently. I use an HRM now. But before I used the machine as it was lower than MFP. That way if I ate back the exercise calories I wasn't too far off.
