Poker

I'm probably going to have to take part in a poker game on Friday.

Never played poker before two weeks ago when I was invited to same game. Read the rules quickly an hour beforehand, went entirely clueless and was very thankful it was cancelled.

Since then have tried a bit of Zynga online poker through Facebook and re-read rules.

I have no expectation of winning (it's fun, not serious money) but don't want to appear a complete idiot. Any tips? Not taking part isn't really an option as I'm going to accompany a sick friend who needs someone to take and look after him.

No advice, but good luck, that's a nice thing you're doing for your friend.

Unless you are sure it's a winner, like 99.999% sure... Do not show your hand. No one will know the difference, so you cannot be judged.
