sugar overload

hey guys :)

i am going over on my sugar count daily.i am guilty of eating junk from time to time but lately i have been eating a lot of fruit. so is there such thing as good sugars and bad sugars??

a couple apples can put me over for the day but has anyone noticed weight gain or any difference in days of eating say chocolate over fresh fruit?

im staying within calorie count but i just wonder if there is more damage eating "bad" sugar or too much sugar, regardless of what is consumed, bad for you

I'm no expert. But from what I've heard, you need to avoid refined sugars but shouldn't worry about the sugars found in fruits/veggies unless you're diabetic. In any case, MFP has a suspiciously low default sugar limit.

I dont believe there is a difference. Sugar is sugar. Fructose is the sugar in fruit. Table sugar "sucrose" also comes from plants. Your body treats them the same. A lot of people will say they don't count "natural" fructose towards their sugar goals. Only the "unnatural" added sugar is what they count. To each their own i guess.

Its really up to you either count your sugars, or don't. Or arbitrarily count some and not others. Or you could give your self a goal range for it, and try not to eat to much sugar packed foods that provide little other nutrients

If you have a medical condition that requires you to monitor your sugar then ask your doctor's opinion
  • Hey, I have the EXACT same problem. My first few days of using this and seeing my sugar count go DOUBLE what it was supposed to be shocked me. The problem? My sugar consists almost entirely of fruits, yogurt, Clif and other protein bars, and the occasional packet of gummy snacks. I have a hard time believing that it is as unhealthy to eat an apple or some yogurt as it is to eat a Snickers bar, even though they both have high sugar counts. Even if the sugar is processed in the same way in your body, there has to be something to be said for one being completely natural and one being processed and packaged. I just feel that the more "raw" something is, the better it is for you and the less hard your body has to work to process it.

That being said, I do try to eat less sugar after seeing how much really goes into my body. Excess amounts of sugar really can hinder your ability to lose weight and exercise effectively. But if most of your sugars are coming from natural sources as opposed to chocolate and honey buns, you should be alright. And feel free to add me! Best of luck to you.
