Hey all I saw an ENT today who referred me to a GI specialist for the second time regarding my large hiatal hernia. The first time I had it evaluated was about 3 yrs ago and the surgeon refused to do the surgery to repair it. Now that I'm older I'm going to a different surgeon for a second opinion. What I do know is that my hernia is very large and will require two surgeries, one to repair it and one to place a mesh from keeping my stomach from moving. My question is, is there anyone out there who has had this surgery and if so what was the recovery time? Diet wise? Exercise wise? I'm freaking out about this so any input would be great.

I had a similar surgery about 15 years ago, ..... dont freak out first of all. Recovery time may be slow, and you need to listen to the docs 110% and not try to push yourself too soon. Just take it easy, let yourself heal and then you can get back in the game when the time is right. So what if you dont get to kill it in the gym for a while, once your completely healed and ready, you can get back at it. As far as diet goes, not sure your diet would be that effected by it, but I am no expert. When I had the surgery I think I had soft foods for a few days to a week, soups and such. Hope all goes well. :flowerforyou:
