SO i recently found out I can GO OFF the gluten free diet I have had to be on for a while. WOOT!

I want to try to start eating oatmeal (huge health benefits) but I find the texture kinda funky. Anyone have ideas on how to change up the texture or do other things with it to make it yummier?

You can adjust the texture by how much liquid you add to it. I love adding fruit, you could even add in some yogurt, cinnamon, nuts

I add yogurt to mine - sweetens it up a bit and smooths it out so it is not so lumpy.

There are lots of threads around here w/ people talking about their favorite oatmeal toppings.

If you don't like the regular old fashioned oatmeal, try steel cut oatmeal. The texture is different (a little crunchier).

You can add all sorts of things to oatmeal! I add things like whole cranberries, chopped apples, nuts, and vanilla protein powder. My favorite is adding chocolate protein powder and natural PB. This time of year I also like to add pumpkin, cinnamon, and walnuts!

You can also eat your oats cold, just like regular cold cereal. Just add milk and toppings and eat!

You can make pancakes with it. I grind my oatmeal up in a food processor so it becomes like a flour, but you don't have to. Mix it with eggs or just egg whites, cottage cheese, milk or water til its the consistancy you want, then add whatever flavors or sweetners you want...I usually add a little sugar or splenda, cinnamon, vanilla & nutmeg, sometimes ground flax seed too. They are denser than regular pancakes so take a little longer to cook, but tasty and healthy...high in protein too.

Cinnamon, vanilla protein powder & almond butter...sometimes bananas. I like my oatmeal very thick & use a bit less water than they say to. I have even added flavored coffee creamer before. I almost think you can put anything in oatmeal & it will be great. I use the "quick oats" & if it comes out a bit too runny, I just spinkle on a little of the instant oatmeal that comes in packets (i keep those on hand for when i travel). It will automatically absorb the excess water. ENJOY!!!
