Italian Hot Dish
Italian Hot Dish
1 1/2 cups uncooked small pasta shells ( I use Ronzoni Whole Grain)
1 lb lean ground beef
1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms (I omit because no one in my family likes them)
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1 15 oz can tomato sauce
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp garlic powder (I use 2 cloves fresh garlic)
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/8 tsp pepper
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
4 tsp Parmesan cheese (I use reduced fat)
1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2) Cook pasta according to directions
3) Meanwhile in a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray, brown the beef, 1/2 cup mushrooms, onion and green pepper, drain. Stir in tomato sauce, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder and pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
4) Drain pasta; place in an 8" square baking dish coated with cooking spray. Top with meat sauce and remaining mushrooms. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese and 2 tsp Parmesan cheese.
5) Cover and bake for 35 minutes; uncover and sprinkle with remaining cheeses, bake 5-10 min longer or until cheese is melted.

Wow, that sounds great.
I wonder how it would do with this chicken sausage we've been eating lately in place of the hamburger. It's way yummy, and a nice big fat link is only 120 cals.

That mozzarella and roasted garlic chicken sausage is soooo good. I get it at Sam's club. Also, sometimes I replace ground beef for ground turkey and no one notices the differences! I'm sure that would be good made with the chicken sausage though, very temped to try it myself!0 -
