Running and pacing

I was wondering how all of you runners pace yourself. I have been running for a couple of years now and have found that I run a quick first mile and then slow down a little (about 15-30 seconds/mile) each mile after. Do you run like me? Or do you run the same pace throughout? My friend who has been running for years runs a slow first mile and then runs faster each mile after. I can see where this would be great for races, since for me it's pretty discouraging to have so many people pass me on that last mile. What method do you find to be best?
Thanks!
Thanks!
