I started my journey in October. I've lost about 60 pounds since then (of about 200 to lose total). I have had plenty of slide backs and getting back on the wagon since then which is why it has taken this long to lose the 60.
Currently I'm going through an extremely hard and stressful time - even though I have 2 jobs, I am not getting any hours and have no way to pay rent that is due in 2 days. I'm behind in every bill I have. I'm dealing with a break up from the love of my life and am struggling to even begin processing all of that. I also quit smoking.
I'm sitting here feeling sick from the meal I just ate. Not only was it a bad choice nutritionally, but it was way, way, way too large. I also couldn't afford ordering out, but I did it anyway because I'm sick of telling myself "no" on everything.
I had made a goal earlier this year to be 220 by Christmas. I'm about 9 pounds off from where I should be at this point. (That is, if I don't show a gain on the scale tomorrow, which I probably will because I've made horrible food choices for the past week and I haven't exercised either.)
I look up success stories here, I've added friends to follow their progress, I look at threads and pictures. I see all this free time I have from not working and read about how so many people here work out 2 hours a day even when they were my size. I get myself pumped up to start doing it because I need to see something big happen - I need to get to a weight point that I haven't seen in a while or something. Then the day comes and its just a big fat "I don't wanna" "I don't feel like it" "I can do it later", and then I never do. I was really good on at least getting cardio every single day for a long time, I know I can do it. I know I feel good when I do it, but I just cannot convince myself to do it now!
How do you get past those negative thoughts and excuses? How often do you work out? How do you deal with the stiffness from working out? What are some non-monetary rewards you give yourself for doing well? How do you get back on the wagon?
Any help, any support, any advice, any stories, anything is welcome. Pics are welcome, specifically from people around my size (300, 5'4") Did you ever struggle like this and how did you get through it?
Thanks

I'm hearing some depression in your post, so hugs. Honestly, the best thing you can do right now is just go for a walk. Or, if that isn't possible for safety reasons, just do some marching in place in front of the TV. Some exercise will ease the depression and give you a feeling of accomplishment. You can't change what you've already done as far as eating and exercising so let that go. The past is the past. You also can't always control circumstances around you. You can only control what you do at this moment. Motivation is only one part of the equation. You have to be determined and committed at the same time. I know its hard, though.
ETA: I didn't answer all your questions, sorry. I work out 3-6 days per week. I had been lifting and doing cardio on the same days, but have decided to alternated days instead. When you are stiff from working out, the best thing to do is actually move around. It can be light, housework or a stroll around the block, but it will get the blood moving and the soreness will ease. How I get past the negatives is to stay committed and determined when I feel unmotivated and to literally take things one step at a time. On days when I don't feel like lifting, I just keep telling myself, its just a few sets, then just a couple more, now I don't have to think of it until the next time. Same with cardio. Just try for 15 minutes. Then see if you can do 5 more.0 -
When I don't want to do something, I do it anyway.
Seriously it works =]0 -
look at thinspiration
http://www.youtube.com/user/BeFit/videos. do a vid on there. some are petty fun.
say ::i will workout for 30 minutes, then i can play <insert thing you want to do>
for me it is my video game.0 -
also, maybe some therapy.0

also, maybe focus on food OR exercise.
i lost 40 pounds a few years back with zero exercise.
maybe a low carb diet? my anxiety and depression almost goes away, and i certainly have less panic attacks once i'm in ketosis.
also the advantage of not having cravings, and less of an appetite helps for sure.0 -
Omg. I totally feel you on all of this. I get the same exact way. I feel like it becomes a vicious cycle I get in to. I eat and am lazy, which makes me depressed, which makes me eat and be lazy! Right now I am only 2 days back from a horrible food bender I went on in Vegas. Its my fat girl version of losing all my cash at the Black Jack table! Hahaha!
Anyways, I've found a few things that help ME when I get in a rut. They may sound silly, and they may not work for everyone, but this is what I do when it get a bad case of the "F*** it"s.
I listen to a REALLY good book on tape when I walk. I dont let myself listen to it anytime other than when I am walking. Sometimes the story is getting so good I have to keep pushing myself or wake up wanting to walk because I want to see what comes next!
If I just cant drag myself off the couch I have a couple shows that I watch to try and kick my butt in to gear. If I need a work out I watch something like American Ninja Warrior, if I cant stop eating I watch Americas Next Top Model. If I need to clean the house I watch Hoarders, If I need some creative energy I watch Project Runway or something crafty. I avoid food network like the plague! I know It sounds silly but it works for me!
If all else fails, I drink a can of RedBull. I know Its not good for me, and Its not and everyday occurrence, but it works wonders!!
I hope I've helped you at least a little. Just so you know, reading your post aand responding to it has helped me wonders today. Much appreciated and good luck!0
