USA's snub to UK terror victims

Edit: maybe the title should've been 'NBC's snub to UK terror victims'
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19037588
What do people think about this?
The Olympic Opening Ceremony happened on Friday night in the Stratford Arena (I was lucky enough to have a standing ticket for it).
It seems that US media firm 'NBC' refused to show the part of the event which was a tribute to victims of the London bombings on 7 July when the Ceremony was aired to America. It was edited out.
Does anyone think this is disgraceful?
Considering the moments of silence the UK has given in tribute to victims of 9/11.. is this the ultimate snub? Admittedly, the London bombings were on a far far far smaller scale, but the pain for the victims' families was no smaller.
Opinions?

Absolutely f-ing disgraceful.0

I would call this one of NBC's many failings in their coverage of the London 2012 Olympics. Quite a few Americans are disappointed with their decision not to show the tribute, including myself.0
-
NBC's been doing some dumb things lately. As evidenced by the removal of Ann Curey, blaming her for the poor ratings, yet not bothering to show something significant, like the news. So I'm not sure its an actual snub, more likely more idiocy. Most Americans I've come across have sent thoughts and prayers to the victims of the London attacks.0
-
Since the 72 munich attack on the Israeli olympians there has not been a moment of silence for them during the openings0
-
As an American, I heard about this and I am so sorry that the media, for whatever stupid reason, decided not to show
this. I have no doubt that it is politically motivated, which is sad. I agree, support came from everywhere after the 9/11
tragedies, especially from our allies; and I think we should stand with our allies. Just know that many Americans do
not agree with NBC's decision on this.0 -
America didn't choose what was shown, we didnt say "don't show that **** on our Tv"
NBC chose what we saw. There's nothing we can do about now.0 -
First Honey Boo Boo and now this. :mad:0

o_O America is disgraceful?

Seriously people.

an interesting article on the 'slip ups' made by NBC in their TV hosting of the ceremony0 -

Not a US snub, no. But definitely a poor choice by NBC, but then from what I gather, they did a lousy job as a whole.0
-
I think it's stupid and silly that NBC did that, but American viewers didn't all collectively say "We don't want to see that! Not American enough!" I believe a lot of people would have enjoyed it, and maybe it would have been good for some Americans to see it, to perhaps increase their global perception.0
-
Oh - not really worth arguing about. I'm glad we had the tribute - it was moving - if other countries edited it out, who cares? Probably may not have been shown in full in Uzbekistan or Monaco either, for all I know. What I do appreciate are those Americans who've been sensitive about it, and annoyed with NBC. But it's their problem with their network broadcaster.0

This thread is probably going to get ugly due to the OP's title choice. It wasn't USA's snub. It was NBC's.0
-
not to sound harsh but everyone on this thread is waiting for someone to make a remark that starts something nasty0

Not me. I was trying to assure the OP that many Americans are sensitive to terrorist attacks elsewhere and that lately NBC have been idiots. I rather hope it doesn't turn ugly.0 -

To be fair, it probably seems that way to the UK folks. You can bet plenty of Americans would be huffy if BBC did the same regarding 9-11 victims. I can see the Facebook postings now. I'm thinking ABC should broadcast in 4 yrs.0 -
Anyway - you can just google and watch it, there's plenty of coverage other than NBC.
It hasn't felt like a snub here - maybe because we don't watch NBC, lol - but it's understandable that NBC focus would be on on your prime athlete. Maybe not the best timing for that particular interview as there were other bits that could have been skipped over.
But - every country has had its traumas minor or major one way or another. It isn't possible to remember or include everything in every Olympic opening ceremony.
What I really loved was the cauldron. That was a real "we are here together" statement. Only without the words.0 -
Considering the moments of silence the UK has given in tribute to victims of 9/11.
Well - yes. They were rather a mixed bunch, not just US, and although you lost the iconic buildings the loss of people went farwide.0 -

Yes, thank you. It's not that we're all dummies and don't care. Please don't judge like that. Thanks.0 -

Can you actually read my post - I have put a line in the top to say NBC's snub.
And if NBC are showing it for the USA then they are choosing to represent.0 -
Meh. My country's mere participation in the Olympics gets edited out of several country's coverage. Not to mention that apparently the opening ceremony is not a fitting time to remember murdered Olympians, but it is a fitting time to remember terrorist attack victims.0

I'm not going to argue about the murdered olympians being remembered, BUT part of the significance of the terrorist attacks is that it happened it a day apart from London actually winning the bid. It's also very relevant in that the threat of terrorist attacks are still very real, but we will not hide or live a quiet life in the shadow to avoid the threat, surely?
NBC sounds like a complete shower from what I've read. But BBC isn't so perfect. They majorly messed up in broadcasting the Jubilee celebrations at several times.0
