hi,
I am one of those people who is constantly losing and regaining a stone or so.usually get down to where I am happy then gradually put it all on again then start over. I have become more aware of the fact that I am probably eating too few cals while "on a diet"-(less than 1200 usually), so would like to maybe try eating a bit more while losing this Time .really need som emotivation tho andwonder if its a problem to have a week or so of fairly low cal, salads, soups etc, avoiding bread etc to kick start the weight loss or would that affect my metabolism(which is prob all over the place already tbh). most diets seem to start with a more restrictive phase to help you get started . just wanted some opinions on this.
apologies for typing- am doing this on my phone and can't actually see what I am writing! hope it makes sense.

As you say, a limited period of greater restriction is quite common, then you can step up a couple of hundred calories a day one week at a time or similar to get to the level you intend to sit at for a while, then the same to get to maintenance.
All this "metabolism" stuff is limited to a couple of hundred calories a day, ignore the doomsayers with their assumed bodily shutdown.0 -
My thing is if you already know that you're "eating too few calories" just up it. Weightloss isn't about a "diet." It's about eating a sustainable amount for the duration and when you get to maintenance, a sustainable amount for life.0

I have just started on my weight loss programme and have opted for very low calorie to kick start for a couple of weeks, I then intend gradually increasing my calories once I get going. If I don't see some instant results I know I'll just cave. Won't know if its working until I try but so far so good0

that's how I feel plipsurt- always want to see some results quickly, even if its just a pound or 2 of water weight. problem is I usually lose any hunger after the first day or 2 and don't really want to eat much once I get going but obviously this isn't sustainable as eventually something happens (weekend away or birthday or something ), I eat tons then completely fall off wagon. would be really nice to break this cycle and eat more sensibly all of the time instead of being on a diet or off a diet- very difficult tho. seems to be one extreme or the other with me. either happily eating healthy but prob too few cals, or else stuffing face with junk:(
sorry for prattling on and thanks for replies. x0
