Best anti-wrinkle creams for mid-40s

I confess I congratulated myself on hitting 40 without displaying too many ravages of time other than what could be dismissed as "laughter line". However, five years on with the hormones thinking about packing up and having lost some weight, I'm now getting proper old-lady wrinkles - you know, the "11" between the eyebrows, the smoker's lip lines (even though I don't smoke!) and the necklace lines round the décolletage.

So far I've been using some fairly basic SPF day cream and night cream, but I was wondering if any of you could recommend anything that's had good results for you. I'm on a budget, but could splash out a little for something that goes a long way and give noticeable results.

It's so unfair to look this old on the outside when I'm feeling younger on the inside every day!

  • I'm biased but I love Neals Yard Organics Frankincense range for older skin.

Retin a cream works wonders. You just need to use it properly and start slow with a small dose. You can get it online through reputable pharmacies at an extremely reasonable price. For me it ends up cheaper than anything at the store and works great!

    Excellent ideas, thanks!

Anyone watch that Horizon programme on skin ageing last week? One of the things the plastic surgeon who presented it said worked was glycans, which is in a very expensive Yves St Laurent moisturiser.

However, after a bit of a Google it turns out the parent company L'Oreal has just put it in its new Revitalift Laser Renew cream, which I was wondering whether might be as good.

Oooh that will be one to try I have to admit I am a bit of a product tart

I usually use Olay Regenerist but just recently I have been trying a new serum by Soap and Glory in Boots called Make Yourself Youthful and my skin seems really smooth since I started using it .. especially my forehead.
It sinks in really quickly and is fine with sunscreen and make up over the top, but I think the most important thing I put on my face in terms of anti aging is my year round Factor 50

Being n the same boat, I'm gonna bump this to see more results later. I have used L'Oreal eye roller off & on but not really seeing any difference. Would also love to her what has worked for others.

I use Olay Total Effects. I does help, I generally am told I look 10-15 years younger than I am. I exfoliate at least twice a week, too.

Retin A is good, but not for every day use. You have to be very careful in the sun if you're using this product. Have you ever had a chemical peel?

I have sensitive skin and don't do well with even mild chemical exfoliants, and I react badly to the sun on its own, let alone with Retin-A!

My sister's FIL is a plastic surgeon. He recommends Oil of Olay products for those not wanting to spend a fortune.

My grandma used the original oil of ulay all her life and had lovely skin!

I use Dermalogica products which I find lovley.
  • Monsia anti-aging cream. Has lots of vitamin C and some other ingredients that are great for making skin supple and soft again :) It's worked awesome so far, it's only available online for now, I got some at Beyas and I'm constantly looking in regular stores but I never seem to find it. Ah well, it's still the best though. :)

Oh, I LOVE Dermalogica. Can't afford it any more though. Though it is my birthday next month... *ponders wish-list*

Never heard of this. Now I'm intrigued and I can't find an online outlet, dammit!

It's what the models use on eye-bags. I eye it sideways at the pharmacy but I just couldn't bring myself to put pile-cream on my face

I'm 39 but was noticing smoker's lines and crow's feet. I used Retin A for acne when I was younger. I just got a prescription for .025 6 weeks ago and I've already noticed significant reduction in my vertical lip lines and luminosity of my skin. My pores are getting much smaller, too. I will go up to .05 in on my next round but save some .025 for around the eyes. I paid $60 for a 2-month supply, less than what I was paying for OTC creams! And it actually works. Start with a lower percentage and use every other night to build up...and just a pea size. Don't go crazy.

    Preparation H.

Without a doubt, the best and cheapest option available. I am 51 and even though I carry excess weight, I only have 2 frown lines that are hardly noticeable.

People I meet never believe my age.

Hahaha, advertising spam bumped my old thread! I settled on Nivea Q10 - just £5 on offer from Superdrug - one of the few cheaper brands that actually keeps my face from getting dried out even in my super-heated office.

You should really try PURE argan oil (organic if you can). Not some mix of whatever oils+argan. It has been used for centuries in the Oriental beauty care. I'm 26 so I don't use it against wrinkles, but it is doing wonders on my extra dry skin, and with time it looks flawless!
Plus, it's an oil that won't leave your skin greasy at all! It may be a bit expensive but it lasts months and it's natural ;)

    Have you ever tried Nerium??
It's new - dramatic results in reducing wrinkles, lines, hyper-pigmentation, acne, scars, dry/flakes etc.
    I <3 It!
    Here's the site: www.radiantskinsolutions.nerium.com

    It's natural, cruelty-free too!
