Fat, older ladies at the gym

Oh boy, went to my gym this morning and it was unusually busy. It was filled with the overweight, the unfit, and the over 40's. (This includes me by the way)

And it was fricking AWESOME all those women, taking charge of their health and fitness, working their butts off. Running, cycling, stairclimbing, rowing and lifting. Gasping, groaning and sweating. We were swapping ideas and egging each other on, trying out different excercises and generally giving each other so much support.

A group of guys came up from the Free weight area took one look at all the wobbly flesh, running sweat and red faces and bolted back down the stairs to safety, hilarious.

I love my gym

Awesome, wish I had a gym like that. There are a few of us but my schedule changes all the time and I always seem to land there on young and cute day, lol.

I love when I go to the gym and I see very large men or women or obviously very physically handicapped people. It reminds me "If THEY can do it, I can do it."

One of my biggest inspirations is this little old lady where my parents live. She's gotta be in her 80s. She walks with a terrible limp. But I see her in the morning walking the entire neighborhood. When I was living there, I would see her nearly everyday. She waves at every car she sees. She's the cutest thing I've ever seen and I applaud all of her hard work because I can tell it is NOT easy for her.

Early mornings in my gym are like this. I love seeing all the older people there taking care of themselves.

My schedule does change too though and I end up there at all hours of the day and the crowd is definitely different depending on the time you are there.

I call the cuties at my gym the pony club (in my head) because when they are all on tread mills their pony tails swing in time and they look like pretty little ponies prancing along LOL

I just love this post! I totally get what you're saying!

The more weight I shed, the more I just feel that nothing can touch my confidence.

I go to a local gym for my pole dancing class and it's always got loads of young guys hanging around in the public areas. At the start I used to feel terrible walking in and always made sure I had about 5 layers of clothing on.

Now, I don't have a care - I just can't wait to get to class. I'm 17.5 st, wearing short shorts and a whole new attitude, because I'm successfully taking care of myself.

So yay for all the "Fat, Older Ladies And Gentlemen" who are showing just what courage, commitment and determination are all about.

I find the older 'fat' people inspiring also!
I think they have a tougher time starting out, but they're really trying and determined -
Hope I'm still at the gym at that age! it's good to see.

My mom is 92 and walks miles every day. Everyone in her residence knows her as the walking lady.

I love seeing people like that at the gym too. There's a couple in their 30's that come to my gym. He's blind.... and he works out like a power house. She helps him when he needs it, but for the most part he's good to go all by himself. Not only is it inspiring to see him push through his disability, but is great seeing a positive loving relationship too.
