Which Is Better: Higher Resistance or Higher Strides?

I use a cardiovascular machine at the gym called a CrossRamp. It's basically a variation on an elliptical machine. Basically, I noticed today that I burn comparable calories if I use a 4/8 resistance as a 5/10 resistance because, at the lower resistances, I complete more strides per minute, about 20-30 more. So, my question is this: is the lower resistances and higher strides per minute better for fat burn than higher resistances and lower strides, vice versa, or doesn't it matter?
