why are unsaturated fats healthier?

Is it because they skip the acyl-CoA dehydrogenase step in beta oxidation & produce fewer ATP equivalents?
Or because poly-unsaturated fatty acids form dienes and consume energy through reductase?
Is it because of some property of the kinked hydrocarbon chains due to the cis bonds?
These are the only possibilities I can think of.
Everyone knows that unsaturated fats are healthier, but no one has ever told me WHY
