Help: Static Weight but Dynamic Body

Hey Everyone,
Need some advice.....
I started to lose weight a month ago via monitoring my caloric intake, which had amazing results. I started adding light weights and more intense cardio and am gaining weight now. I feel so discouraged BUT my clothes are getting loose. I am a runner and am looking to increase my distance but with the extra pounds it makes it soo hard to go fast. Also, my joints have been killing me with the extra weight. I am so confused and frustrated.
I drink a TON of water. Sure my diet isn't really all that great but could that really be it if I am remaining within my cals? I do eat a couple of bad things a week - icecream, chocolate bar, toast, diary (makes me bloated so I take caltrate) etc. But I limit these things to not be an everyday sort of thing.
I have heard TWO different stories on weight loss:
1. Eat back the calories you burn.
2. Don't eat back the calories you burn.
It feels like when eating back my cals I gained weight, but when I didn't eat them all back I lost weight. What should I do?
