I NEED more protein...

May I have some suggestions on getting more protein without getting calories and carbs? Any advice is welcome
edit: I meant without loading up on cals and carbs :blushing:

You can't get protein without calories, since protein is 4 calories per gram. As far as protein without carbs, any form of lean meat (beef, chicken, pork, fish, etc.) will do the trick. There are many protein shake powders on the market which are very low in carbs - the whey protein I use contains 52g of protein per serving with only 3g of carbs.
  • These all have calories obviously, but perhaps you could replace some of your every day meals/snacks with some of these to bump up your protein

    Greek yogurt
    Cottage Cheese
Eggs (egg WHITES are only 15 cals per white. Egg beaters -original have around 130 cals per cup and 27g Protein)
    nuts
    Chicken
    Fish
Veggie burgers (boca vegan burgers are only 70 cals and have quite a bit of protein; Morning star burgers taste better but have more calories)

I may try protein shakes..I wasn't really thinking too well when I posted "without cals & carbs". I think you know what I meant..not loaded with cals and carbs. :blushing:
    Thanks!

Thanks, I Love nuts, chicken, and fish (especially the fish I catch myself..Lol)
I did not think about the nuts being high in protein, but you're right..I guess I need to stock up on a few for snacks during the day! Hmm..yogurt..making me want some!! 8-)

You can friend me if you'd like to steal ideas from my diary! I'm currently holding a 30% carb, 20% fat, 50% protein macronutrient ratio - so I'm eating well over 150 g of protein a day with WAY less carbs :)

I bought Whey protein powder at Meijers. It comes in a coffee can type jug for $15. you mix it with anything you like I use skim milk . It gives you 38 grams with I scoop and 76 grams with 2 scoops.
  • Meijers? Meijers? Oh, how I miss Meijers!!!!

Visiting family in Grand Rapids & Muskegon....Meijers is the FIRST place I want to walk around.

OK, back to protein..... I'm always looking for ways to add more protein too, so I'm really happy for this thread. Just started with making protein shakes, and homemade yogurt.

I've been getting 130-160 grams a day, feel free to go through my diary it is open. Most of my go-to's have already been listed. Did anyone say greek yogurt yet? My end of day fix if I haven't hit total is a fruit-at-the-bottom greek yogurt mixed with a scoop of chocolate whey protein and frozen until it is hard, tastes like ice cream!
