BMI???

How much stock do you put into the BMI?? I am looking at it in horror! I am supposed to weigh between 101 and 136 pounds. I have a tendency to think that if I were to even get to the upper end of that range that I would look horribly ill and feel that way too. I was so excited a few minutes ago thinking that I may have actually gotten out of the obese category- just to find out that I have to hit my upper goal weight to do that! My lowest goal weight is still in the overweight category!! I feel like that is a lose- lose situation:explode:

BMI is kind of ridiculous, says I'm obese lol0

I don't put a lot of stock into BMI--it doesn't take into consideration things like actual muscle mass. For instance, my mom is skinny but doesn't work out so she doesn't have a lot of muscle mass. My mom's BMI is lower than mine, but her body fat percentage is much higher. Hope that helps.0

I am never sure how seriously to take it
I am aiming for the top weight of my bracket which is 150lb but some people have said they think losing another 14.5lb would make me look too thin!
Im just going to keep going for now and see how I look when I get a bit closer

For me I know I will always be overweight according to BMI.
I just have too much muscle and can't imagine getting down to normal, it would not feel healthy to me.
Ultimately we all know if we have a bit of wobble and don't need a scale or BMI to tell us if we are 'healthy'.0 -
Ditto - I decided to set my goal based on how I feel and the size pants I want to wear. My ideal BMI is what I weighed in junior high and I didn't have a ounce of fat then. I would look kind of emaciated at that weight now. There are so many different body types that it is diffcult to squeeze in to some "standards". My worry is that, with the way things are headed, we will be paying our health care premiums based on something like our BMI.0

I used the top end of normal for my BMI to set my first weight goal because I too thought I would look sick if I went any lower. I'm now 17 pounds below that number and still losing. You really need to see how you feel when you get there.
I don't put a lot of stock into the BMI for individuals, but also think a lot of people underestimate themselves and use the criticism of the BMI as an excuse to carry a bit more weight than they should. Ultimately, body composition testing is the best way to establish goals. Shoot for a body fat percentage rather than weight.0 -

I agree with the above. Don’t stress about your ‘final goal’. Use the goals you have now and when you achieve them (and you WILL achieve them), then you can re-evaluate.0 -
Totally ignore bmi and concentrate on bodyfat%0
