Well my reasoning was that there is absolutely nothing in them that is actually good for me. I gave up soda April 30, 2009! Haven't even had a sip since.

Make sure you log the soda and alcohol - sodium and hidden calories can add up.

Those last 10 are the hardest - if you have been doing the same fitness routine, change it up - add some strength trianing or some high intensity bursts in your walking by jogging...

Diet coke/Coke zero/pepsi...contain aspartame. Google aspartame & phenylketonurics/phenylalanine & you will get the jist. As horrible as the info is, I can't go cold turkey either. But I've cut down to just a few per week like you.

Why do you say you have 9 pounds to lose? Is that because a website or chart somewhere says that is you ideal weight? Your ideal weight is one where you are comfortable with how you look and feel.

If you _really_ want to lose the last nine pounds then maybe it would be beneficial to replace your diet sodas, fizzy drinks and alcohol with water. This will flush sodium (which can cause water retention) out of your body. After you reach your goal weight you can always choose to go back to the alcohol and diet sodas in moderation. Also, do different exercises. Your body will get used to a certain exercise routine and will no longer respond to it the way you want it to. If you're used to walking try jogging. During a jog add 60 second sprints throughout the jog. This will "shock" your body into adapting to the new level of demands placed on it.

Are soft drinks bad for you?

Many professionals who work with people with eating disorders recognize the widespread use of caffeine -- whether in coffee or diet soft drinks -- as a low-calorie way of feeling energetic. Many people use diet soft drinks to try to avoid feeling hungry, or to manage their hunger without eating. It's possible to become physically addicted to caffeine, as people who have tried to give up coffee find out when they have headaches.

Colas also contain carbonated water, high-fructose corn syrup or sucrose, caramel color, phosphoric acid and natural flavors. A 12-ounce can contains 140 calories, which come from the 39 grams of sugar. It also contains 50 milligrams of sodium. Diet colas contain aspartame in place of the corn syrup, but otherwise the ingredients are similar.

I don't believe that drinking soft drinks or diet soft drinks in moderation is a serious health problem. Moderation means no more than one or two 12-ounce servings per day. Moderation also means that we drink other beverages, such as water, milk and juice. If soft drinks replace beverages that contain needed nutrients, then it's no longer moderation.

    Sincerely,

Since it mentioned "moderately" I'd go with ONCE a day as a reward during dinner time. This is what I do. As I myself have LOST 20 pounds and my 2nd goal is to lose another 10 pounds before my 45th birthday (March 2010). Blessings!
