its bad...but I am just curious so I can see if I need to make changes. Does eating more protein and your body using fat as fuel maybe mean you dont have so much "waste"?

I'm not too sure what you're saying/asking but when you go low carb, you don't get as much fiber in your diet so you don't utilize the bathroom as much as before.

    Hopefully I answered your question?

Depends on if you are getting enough fibre from fruits and vegetables and to my knowledge, being paleo does not necessarily mean having to be low carb ?

well i dont go to toilet often.

since i am not eating as much as i used to....AND i am doing this low carb and they say my body is utilising all the fats ....so that should mean the proteins (amino acids) are being gobbled up....and with no carbs left....no "WASTE" for the bathroom?

just wanted to know if I should get some Senna tea every now and again and make myself go???

Carbs usually come in the form of vegetables, fruit, and whole grains (and even refined grains). If you have cut a lot of those out, then you have likely cut out a significant amount of fiber, which moves things along, if you will.

Also, there is no significant benefit in terms of weight loss to doing low-carb. In fact, chronic low-carb diets have been shown in some studies to be harmful to the metabolic process (glucose production) and many studies on the effect of certain diets on resting metabolic rates have shown that those who consume a low-carb diet for an extended period of time have lower resting metabolic rates. Chronic low-calorie diets in general tend to not be so great for one’s resting metabolic rate either. Many studies show that for some people, weight loss for the first 6 months with low-carb diets is greater than for other diets, but no significant difference is seen after about year in terms of more weight loss or sustained weight loss. Carbs do not make people fat. In fact, they are an excellent source of energy.

At rest and during exercise, you body already uses mostly fat and carbs for energy. Protein is not meant to be used as energy, especially while dieting. If you are essentially “training” your body to use protein for fuel, it is no longer used for other processes in your body that it needs to be used for – repairing damaged cells and building and repairing muscle tissue. There are low-carb diet protocols out there for quick weight loss, but they are not meant to be sustained for long periods of time.

“There are concerns that low-carbohydrate diets lead to abnormal metabolic functioning that may have serious medical consequences, particularly for participants with cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, or hypertension. Specifically, it has been cautioned that low-carbohydrate diets cause accumulation of ketones and may result in abnormal metabolism of insulin and impaired liver and kidney function; in salt and water depletion that may cause postural hypotension, fatigue, constipation, and nephrolithiasis; in excessive consumption of animal proteins and fats that may promote hyperlipidemia; and in higher dietary protein loads that may impair renal function.” - http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=196351

I’m not an expert obviously on low-carb diets, but I wouldn’t do one without talking to a nutritionist or dietitian first.

You need much more fiber :)
  • After about 3months I will increase my carb amounts in the form of more fruits and vegetables.

However, what I read about Carbs..is yes..they are not inherently bad for you but the average person eats something like 300g a day....which is MORE than the body handles. This causes in increase of insulin...and far greater health defects than ketones in the body.

    But FIBER...more yes...pfff..

If BMs are a concern, you can add psyllium husks to you diet [Metamucil] - it'll bulk up and clear you out. I do low carb [Atkins and weight loss surgery] and BMs can be a challenge when your diet has such little fiber in it.

I eat paleo/primal, I eat lots of high fiber veggies, fruits, nuts.

    Greens - kale, collards, spinach
    Sweet Potato
    Apples
    Avocado
    Berries
    Apricots

Also coconut... I use coconut oil or avocado oil to cook, creamed coconut in my coffee, drink almond and coconut milk. My carbs average 50-100g/day since I'm in weight loss mode. Maintenance mode will bump carbs to 100-150g/day. No issues with #2, and in fact, improved since cutting out processed junk, refined sugars, grains.
