protein shake/bar before or after workout

I usually have a protein shake/bar on days I workout as a mid morning snack. I workout at lunch time, and then I eat, usually veggies and lean protein.

I always try to eat the "snack" at least one hour prior to working out so it doesn't make me feel "heavy" while exercising.

Question is: am I better off holding out until after workout to have the protein shake/bar? does it make any difference?

    This.

A snack before working out will generally make you feel a little more energized during, and then a protein heavy meal after the work out will help recovery. But there's not strict timing on this. Sounds like you're doing fine.

    ^^^Truth^^^

I have my protein shake for breakfast about 7am and I work out at about 9pm. Protein just helps rebuild muscle tissue more than anything (so my nurse friends and doctors and Drill Sergeant friends have told me). If you feel really sore after a workout then take another one 30-60 minutes afterwards. Double check to see how much protein you can take in a day. (From what I've been told by same listed professionals) is its about 1gr per pound of body weight. So examle I weigh 213 pounds so my max limit is around 210gr of protein a day.
