Pulled stomach muscle?

I'm on level 2 of 30DS, and a couple days ago I noticed a really bad pain in my abdomen, only while trying to do the ab exercises. It wasn't a "ouch this move is really working my muscle" pain, but rather an " I think I'm being stabbed" pain. So I skipped a day yesterday and just did cardio, and I thought the muscle was better, but when I did the workout again today, it was killing me! I can do the crunches, but not the exercises where you have to bring your legs up and down (normally I have no problem doing those). Is this just a strained/pulled muscle? I've never had a pulled stomach muscle before....anyone else have experience with this, or know how to make it go away?

You probably injured one of your adductor muscles or tendons. These are the muscles used to pull your legs up and some of them run under your rectus abdominis (your abs) so you would feel them as being in your lower to mid stomach depending on the location of the injury.

If you have one of those stabbing pain feelings then you need to give that muscle some time to heal properly. You can probably continue to exercise at a moderate level but anything that gives you pain like the leg raises should be avoided or done in very limited amounts until it starts feeling better. Take the time to get better and don't rush it. Everyone has injury setbacks from time to time. Just enjoy a week off and jump right back in when you get better. You'll be surprised at how little the break affects your progress. Some times it's even good for you to take some time off even if you're not injured but for sure slow down and pause if you're injured in an area.

Thank you so much for the info! I'll just avoid abdominal exercises for a while, since I don't feel any pain during my other activities. I guess I should have known that one day of rest wasn't enough! Thanks again

Those kind of injuries typically aren't that bad. The scary ones involve the complex joints like the knee, shoulder, and back.

It will probably take a week or two before it's good enough to work out on again. Give it 4-5 days and then start testing it with some easier stuff up until the point that you can tell it's still injured. Just keep checking back in on it every other day or so and you'll find that you can gradually work it harder and harder and eventually you won't even remember it was hurt.

I did something stupid to my back Saturday on the hack squat. Light workout for me this week. On the plus side that means there's no 6 am cardio this week either, so hey! Extra sleep right? Wait till you're as old as me. Should I buy another tub of Creatine or a new cane?

Where on your stomach does it actually hurt and can you feel any lump or knot in the muscle belly?

You're thinking a hernia? Maybe, but I don't know anyone that had one who didn't know right away that they had a serious problem. (the protruding lump in the muscle.)

Good thing to be aware of at any rate.

Yes that is what I was thinking but it is not very common for feels but still a chance.
