Although the weather was crapy I decided to go to the gym and see if I could run a full 3 miles. I have entered in a 5k for this saturday and was nervous about completing it as I have never run that far before.
Well I did it! I ran 3.25 miles!....very very slowly but I did it. It took me 37 minutes....I am hoping this saturday I will do a little better with the time.
When I started this whole process my goal was to actually enter and run (the whole time) a 5k. I am almost there!!

Congratulations! I have heard that you do end up running a little faster in a race because all the people around you are very motivating. There is a different mentality between racing and training. Good luck!

Good luck Kaylou.... I wish you the best tomorrow :flowerforyou: 37 min is awesome  5 years ago (in my younger days) I ran/slowly jogged a 5K and it took me 43 min. My goal is to beat that time for my run in April. I am still having trouble going from nice weather outside training to freezing weather or training on treadmill. I repeated Week 1 again but do plan to try week 2 of C25K next week.

I haven't been doing as well with the shred. I work harder and longer (and my husband will work out with me) if I do step aerobics before work. I have been doing the C25K or walking with my mom (she's in her 60s and needs to get more exercise) in the evenings. I just cant find time to do a 3rd workout unless its on the weekend. Something had to go - it was the shred

    pinbotchick-
2 workouts in a day is great....I have only managed to get in one a day. But I am finding the same challenges...cold weather vs. treadmill etc. But.............................................

TODAY I COMPLETED MY FIRST EVER 5K...... pretty exciting stuff. I did it in 32 minutes. Now I have to confess that it was very hilly and I usually only run flat routes.....so I did walk one time for 40 seconds to catch my breath (this was after the 3rd hill) Those hills kicked my *kitten*!

I really feel great today! One more check on the list of goals! completed!

32 minutes is an amazing time! Great job! I just did my first 20 minute run yesterday and was a little sore. The route I run does have some hills and they do kick my butt. Are you planning to train for an 8 or 10K? Or are you just going to stick to 5Ks for a while?

Way to go Kaylou :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: 32 min is great and walk breaks are allowed. Those hills do suck.

I am glad you posted. I thought about you today as I was doing my walk/jog today. I guess I am doing better than I thought - itunes and I had a fight today and I couldn't get week 2 to my ipod but week 3 managed to transfer - so I thought what the heck I'll do the 3rd week and just walk more if I need to. But, I actually jogged all 9 min - I just kept saying kaylou and stephy do this I can to... My legs felt like jello but I managed to get 2 14 min miles - that's pretty darn good for me at this point. I will get there - 6 more weeks of training

Nice job on the 20 min run savvystephy :flowerforyou: When are you going to run a 5K?

Hi guys...I think I might do a couple more 5k's before the next step. I need to incorporate some hills in my runs so that it doesn't cause such a struggle during the 5ks.

Pinbot....that's awsome. I love that we motivate eachother to push past our comfort zones. Most of the time I push through it so I can post a good report :)

We are doing it....and that's what I keep saying. When I got done with the race and we were in the car I said to my fiance "I am so dissappointed in myself for walking the 40 sec." He said "you did it"...thats what counts...you did it. And I thought your right....I did it! :drinker:

Pinbot - Great job to you for being able to do week 3! :drinker: The soonest 5K I have been able to find in my area is in April. So, that's when my first 5K will be. Unless one that is sooner gets posted online.

Kaylou - You did do it! It's fantastic. :) You're doing great.

The soonest 5K in my area is also April. But - I have a friend in Phoenix and have found a 5K there in Feb. Do I really want to spend $300 on tickets to run a 5K? I guess I'll think about it and watch the price of flights. Once the snow starts here I may be glad to out town for awhile.

It was nice to run outside again today - this 40 degree weather can stay all winter.

The hills are hard - my path was different today and several of my runs were on hills. WOW. It really slowed me down.
