Exercise/rest days

I have just started the C25k programme and have done the first 2 sessions with a day inbetween. I am due to do my third one tomorrow. On the alternate days when I am not doing the walk/jog, am I supposed to rest from all exercise?
I have been still doing some exercise eg my exercise bike; today I went for a very hilly walk and my right calf is really hurting me tonight, nothing major but just aching all over, probably from the hills. I'm now not sure if I should do no exercise at all tomorrow or whether, if my calf feels ok, I should do my next C25 walk/jog then continue with a walk/cycling the following day. Please advise. With thanks.
