Morning Star?

I really dont have time to cook... even more so now that I am trying to learn portion control. Once I get back into the swing of things I may be able to cook and know I'm still on track.
So today, instead of buying the box of pre made cheese burgers at 600+ cal each... I got a box of (chicken and grilled) Morning Star burgers. Gotta say they are SOOOOOOOOOOO much more yummy then I thought. And I do feel it's a great choice to help get me back into eating healthier, not clean, yet. But healthier then before.
So what does everyone think about Morning Star?

I love Morningstar!!! Although most iitems are still highly processed and can be high in sodium, they are waaayyy healthier than a cow cheeseburger.
The BBQ Riblet is so delicious!!
And the corn dogs!
But the best, by far, is the spicy black bean burger. When I first became a vegetarian, I ate those all the time because they smell like fried chicken, LOL.0 -
I've been wanting to know... can you microwave those morning stars burger? If so, does it taste any different than if you were to grill or bake it?
Just wondering. I've been wanting to try the morning star chicken patties, but not if I have to bake or grill it. ;P0 -
Love their "burgers", I think my favorite so far is the tomato & basil pizza burger. The chik'n patties are also good. Next time I go to the store, I will pick up the hot wings too.0

Yes, you can microwave them. I love the Southwest burgers. So yummy. They are high in sodium, however.0

I LOVE their chicken patties and chipotle black bean burgers.0

I like their breakfast sausage patties. I make biscuits and gravy with them sometimes. I haven't tried anything else with morning star but I also get the Boca or Boco flame grilled burgers and they are decent. I'm not a vegetarian but I like to eat and try a variety of foods and these are also a good replacement if you are looking for something with fewer calories0

Yes.. you can! :0) I love m/s stuff.. the spicy chicken nuggets and black bean chipotle 1/4lb " burgers" are my faves.0 -
OHMYGOSH! Friends, I am addicted to the Tomato and Basil Pizza burger, and the Mushroom burger! So so so so SO yummy!0

Spicy. Chicken. Meatless. Pattys.
Enough said.
LOL
If you like their Black Bean burgers, try the ones Garden Burger makes. they're better. And less sodium!0 -
i'll stick to meat. less processed foods if one of my goals.
i try to avoid 'boxed' things.0 -

You can microwave them but be careful about microwaving the chik'n patties. If you cook them too long they get really hard on the outside edges and it's like eating a shoe (I would imagine  ). I also think they're slighty more greasy if you put them in the microwave instead of the oven but nothing setting it on a paper towel for a second won't fix.0 -
ugh. haven't tried it but my sister eats them all the time because she's a vegetarian. She likes the grillers waaaaayyy more than Boca or any other brand. But I can't stand the smell when she cooks them so I couldn't put it in my mouth. They smell like dog food and vitamins. It makes the whole house reek to be perfectly honest. The chicken patties smell much better but have you seen the sodium content on those products? I'm convinced its why my sis has such high blood pressure.0

I'm a vegetarian - so I'm a huge fan of Morningstar - and usually have some form of it almost every day (their breakfast sausages are fab!) That being said - there are a lot of open questions about soy and the fact that it can mimic estrogen. So I would say - like everything - practice moderation.
There are several other brands made of soy and non-soy products that are just as good but sometimes not as widely available. I would suggest mixing it up so it's not all soy. Currently in my freezer, I have:
• Quorn (they have an entire line - but they make these stuffed "chicken" patties that are to die for) these are made with Mycoprotein - which is pretty much from fungus (think mushrooms)
• Amy's veggie burgers - again the make a whole line - but I have their veggie burgers made with mushrooms and brown rice
• Lightlife - smart dogs (fake hot dogs) only 50 cal each, 7 grams of protein. These are soy based and actually in my fridge, not my freezer.
• Gardein - chick'n scaloppini & beefless tips - protein is a mix of soy and wheat gluten
• Nate's Meatless Meatballs - boy howdy - these are great with spaghetti (or spaghetti squash or miracle noodles) or in a meatball sub / wrap (again soy and wheat gluten)
• Morningstar – breakfast sausages (the round ones, not the links), beef crumbles (great for sloppy joes, pasta, casseroles), burgers and chicken nuggets
Hope that helps!0 -
As a vegetarian, its all I eat.....I also like boca too!0

I'm not a vegetarian, but I like some of their stuff :90

Sorry to be the barer of bad news but dead animals are the most processed things to eat, you don't even want to know what fake stuff, hormones, chemicals and drugs are in there!0 -
The sodium doesn't bother me... right now. But that's because as much sodium that is in it, is still only 1/2 of what was in my "normal" food.
I would love to buy fresh instead of boxed but 1) I really dont have the time and 2) I REALLY dont have enough money for that. I spend $20 every 2 weeks on healthier things... which is twice as much as I was spending before.0 -
Next time get the spicy black bean burger. You may never eat a real burger again, seriously. I eat mine with some cheese (gotta have cheese!) and other favorite toppings and it actually tastes better than a real burger. I am a vegetarian and used to crave meat like crazy until I discovered these. They are a lifesaver0

I was thinking about getting the black bean burger but wasn't sure how I would like it. Next pay day I think I'll get 1 of each I see and try them all. I had the chicken burger with pepper jack cheese and tomato- SO YUM!0

Although I buy them less now, I buy the hot & spicy soysage the most. I split 2 patties to make 4 rounds. Crisp them in a pam sprayed pan and slide 'em between whole wheat toast. Wrap that puppy in a paper towel and hit the road.
The grillers prime is a pretty good burger sub if I dont have home made patties in the freezer.
There is that whole GMO debate with MSF products. I try not to listen.0 -

Totally agree about eating soy in moderation!
Aren't those Nate's Meatballs the best???? I love the Zesty Italian. And of course, the Gardein is just DELICIOUS!!
Never heard of Lightlife, will have to keep an eye out!!0 -

Dont be afraid to use a slow cooker. I know on my busy days I chunk my food in it in the morning and when I arrive at night its ready to eat0
