Raising daily calorie fear

When it is time for me to stop losing weight, how do I go about raising my calories just to maintain my weight? When I raise my calories, is it possible I may gain weight temporarily until my body gets used to the new level of calories? I also want to go back to the gym once I reach my goal weight and I dont know how the added exercise will impact my eating habits. In the past, I always lost/maintained weight by exercise alone. I was incredibly toned, looked thinner than I do now, and was thicker. But I am the same clothing size I am now--a womens size 8. This is the first time I lost weight by controlling my food and my body is losing weight differently. I look more lean except I am not toned. So i want to lose the weight first , settle in a clothing size 6, and then tone up.

I am on 1200 calories a day. It works for me, I don't feel hungry, I eat 3 balanced meals a day and 2-3 snacks a day. I have been doing this for about 4 months now. I would say probably 1 time a month I wind up wanting a snack not because I am still hungry but because I just want something yummy and want to give in. On these occasions I have never went past 1500 calories for that day, However, I always have this sense of disappointment in myself and fear that I am messing up my progress.

I am getting closer to my goal weight with 17 lbs more to go. I have this fear of when it is time for me to stop losing weight that i will gain weight once I up my calories. 2 of the 4 times of my over 1200 days that I didnt lose weight at the end of the week also invloved less than normal physical activity so I dont know how to judge.
