Calorie confusion

If I set my goal and start at a certain amount of calories why aren't my caloric requirements decreased as I continue to lose weight?
I'm confused--it seems if my body is smaller I would need less calories in order to continue my weight loss. I am several weeks in now and have made good progress but I regularly have excess calories left at the end of the day. I always get in all my protein but I am always under on my carbs and try to not go over my fats. I am restricting my eating plan a bit with starches and carbs in general but I need to do that to keep on track. I confess I have been a CARBOHOLIC in the past and I am trying to change that for good. I am on a journey to be healthy for life-not just to lose the excess weight.

MFP asks you to recalculate after every 10 or so pounds of weight loss. However, MFP is kind of dumb, make sure you do some research and make sure that it's recommendations are right for you.
Also, unless you have over 30lbs to lose, don't set your weight loss goal at 2lbs per week.0 -
You need to recalculate every 10 lbs. You can do it manually.
You can also manually set your carbs to what you want - or just watch them. If you have been eating too many carbs, 555 (the default) will be a decent start though.0 -
I've found a lot of helpful information on exactly what your body needs on the FDA website and just through random research on the internet. I utilize outside information with the recommendations from MFP because while it is a great tool, it can't take into account every single factor that goes into an individual's metabolism. I know different things work for different people so I hope the advice here (from me and others) will be helpful to you.0
