How to record gym workouts?

Just joined the Y and will have my first real workout tomorrow. I know how to do the ones that are timed, like treadmill and such, but how do you record ones that you do reps and weights on?

I have no idea. I'm sure there are probably some older threads out there on this, but I really don't know how to find them.
  • Reps are usually strength training and there is a separate section for strength training under the exercise tab. So hopefully what you do is listed under there or maybe someone else has a better idea.

I use Excel to create spreed sheets for workouts, shoulder & arms, chest &back ect that each column has a weight and rep field. I then printed them off and record my workouts, so I know how much weight and reps I did the previous workout.

If you have an email would be more than happy to send the spread sheet to you.

Go to the exercise tab on your page. If you do cardio, enter the machine type. I find that MFP over estimates the calories burned, and so do most of the machines. So be careful.

I have no idea if this is what you are "supposed" to do, but this is how I do it...

I record it under cardiovascular- there is a selection for strength training. That way, it records calories that I'm burning.

Then, I also go under the strength option, just below the the cardio, and record what I'm doing, how much and how much weight. This doesn't seem to influence any calorie burn, but it's nice for me to keep track of what I am doing.

I guess it's just a preference thing and probably doesn't really matter as long as you're being consistent.

I personally just like writing everything down in a notebook. Sectioned out different pages for every day of my split, then record the date, then weight/reps/sets
