I suffer from metabolism envy.

We all know at least one person who can seemingly eat whatever they want, eat as much of it as they want, eat it whenever they want, never participate in any physical activity whatsoever...and still maintain their weight.
My co-worker is just such a person. She's about 5'6" & weighs probably 115 lbs soaking wet. She literally eats out for EVERY meal...and doesn't choose the healthy options. She, by her own admission, NEVER exercises. She smokes a half-pack of cigarettes a day & uses alcohol as her meal replacement on the weekends. She's probably the unhealthiest person I know, but she never gains a pound.
I don't drink. I don't smoke. I count my calories faithfully every day. I exercise 5-6 days a week for at LEAST 30 minutes per day. . Don't get me wrong - I feel good about myself & I'm proud of the progress I continue to make - I've lost 13 lbs. in 8 weeks! Still, sometimes I can't help but feel envious over having to work so hard for something that someone else takes for granted! Wouldn't it be nice to eat anything you wanted and not have to worry about your weight...ever?
Ah, well. Whine's over. We soldier on!

They may be smaller right now but we are healthier! Yes it would be soooo nice to eat whatever. But I'm sure they have problems of their own.0

you never know... she could be puking it out lol
don't worry, usually people who are like that are building fat around their organs and whatnot and later down the road, they'll get high cholesterol or diabetes or something like that. your body can only take so much crap in it :P0 -
yep...life is unfair. We people that have to work at it should feel better about ourselves though.0

I don't really understand the envy. I eat enough that I'm satisfied, so it doesn't matter to me if someone else eats more.0

she could actually have whats called visceral fat, which is internal fat that is dangerous bc it suffocates her organs.During a final in my class I tested BF% with calipers and so called 'skinny girls' had a high number! so dont feel bad shes probably super unhealthy and keep up your good work!0

I just posted about this earlier today. My friend is perceived the same way. She is 5'10, 110 pounds. She's the kind of girl who walks down the street and strangers yell at her to eat a sandwich. She one week decided she was going to gain weight so she did yoga and consciously ate as much as she could every day. I remember she called me bragging that she had gained 4 pounds, but the next week she lost interest and subsesquently lost the weight. She drinks a ton of beer, her favorite meal in the world is mac n cheese, and she buys movie theater extra butter popcorn and eats the entire bag (well, that was back in college, I don't know if she still does that. She definitely still drinks her weight in beer at least once a week).
So everyone would whine about her super human metabolism but I started watching her pretty closely. And I realized a couple things. 1. When she eats mac and cheese, she probably eats about a cup a time. 2. When she orders a double cheeseburger from McDonalds, that's her lunch. And that's probably all she'll eat until dinner time. 3. When she goes out to the bars, she never orders appetizers because she doesn't want to pay for it. 4. She cooks for herself and her boyfriend almost every single night because she doesn't want to spend money going out to eat. Mostly meat and vegetables.
So, she doesn't make the healthiest choices in general, but her total calorie intake is probably still less on average than most people. It just doesn't take much to fill her up, and when she does get junk food, she just eats very small portions without even thinking about it.
I think that is the case most of the time. The people who say, I eat what I want, and are still thin, probably aren't making a habit of 3,000 calorie daily junk food binges.0 -

i was like this the summer before college when i was at my lowest weight--size 2 and i could slip off my jeans without unbuttoning them (miss those days T__T). i would eat out all the time--olive garden, cinnabon, mexican food, regular caramel frappucino from starbucks etc. but i wouldn't eat the whole thing and only eat once a day. i was super busy so i didn't notice horrible hunger. but then when college started, i still had that mentality that i could eat whatever i wanted--except i wasn't doing it just once a day like normal--and that's when the weight started piling on

Just be happy in knowing you'll probably live longer.0
