Calories burned accuracy

Hey everyone,

I'm concerned over the accuracy of how many calories are burned doing an activity. When I do a 30 minute treadmill run at 6mph MFP says I burned 547, my machine says I've burned just under 500 and my watch with a heart rate monitor and pedometer says 346. All these sources have my age/weight information for their calculations and there is a significant difference there so I'm wondering if people are aware or not.

My solution is to trust my watch since its the lowest one and I'd rather underestimate than overestimate.

Gym machines are notoriously high. I'd stick with the heart rate monitor, those tend to be more accurate.
  • Yes, go with the HRM.

I think your HRM is most likely the best source. If you have a chest strap though, you may need to add a little conductive gel in the beginning to get the monitor working correctly prior to sweating.
