Injury 7 weeks ago, and rest heart rate has increased

I tried to google this, but can't seem to find any answers. I do have a Dr. appt today for my hip injury and will ask the Dr. but I was wondering if anyone here has ideas.
I started running in January and by May I was regularly running 30 miles a week, I fell (and hard) and suffered a hip injury (trochanteric bursistis) I couldn't (way too painful) run for 4 weeks, and this week I'm likely to log 15-18 miles. My question is this...
my resting heart rate was 60 before and this morning it was 72. My latest runs have been more difficult (cardio-wise as well), and I was running for much longer prior to my injury. I do feel a great deal of stress about not running and the injury, and the whole 'not' burning as many calories, but that seems like a big jump... Can stress and 7 weeks off have that much of an effect?

During 7 weeks off you lost a lot of cardiovascular fitness. As you start again you will run a little slower until the fitness comes back. It will probably take about two to three months to regain your previous level of fitness.0

Thank you for your response, it makes sense, I had no idea you could lose that much so soon. I'm happy to be doing my 15 ish miles though.0 -
The good news is that rebuilding lost fitness feels a whole lot easier than building the fitness the first time around.0

I'm in my second week back to running and working out after 4 weeks off and I have lost some fitness as well, so my HR is higher than it used to be too. Bummer, but we'll get back there where we were!0

I had a Dr. appt. yesterday and it is as you said...the happy news is that I can venture out of the 3 mile range now and run further(unless pain stops me). That was good news.... The Dr. also indicated that if I am stressed enough it will also raise my HR. Thank you (both) for your replies and happy running (and or recovery).
Dirty Dash tomorrow ( I will be walking it with my 12 year old and a few friends)... 1/2 in December so if I'm careful I will be back and ready for that race. Again, thank you.0 -
how are you taking your resting HR? You would need to take it over several days to get a reliable reading. You dont want to be worrying about it - it will put it up even further and then you will worry more and ,,,,,0
