maybe stick to running/walking for now and lower body work?

Jillian Michaels Burn Fat, Boost Metabolism is cardio and think you could get around any shoulder work and still get a good workout...

Is there a chance you can see a doctor?

I have a poor shoulder too, too much repetitive stress on my left side. I've started incorperating exercise (with weights) to strengthen my rotator cuffs. At gym, I lift heavier with my right than I do with my left until my left starts feeling better.

Try Zumba... great cardio like kickboxing, just more dancing. Try out a few different instructors though until you find the one who best suits you. All of their styles are so different!

I injured my foot 2 weeks ago and I googled what I could do and saw that swimming and cycling were an option with a foot injury. So I started spin class and my butt hurt doing it days in a row. Then I switched to the stationary bike with back support but realized I couldn't just sit back and take it easy, I had to give it the same endurance I was in spin class and I burned 400 calories doing it for an hour.

I'd take this time to develop your ranting skills, I didn't feel your passion, I couldn't visualize any crazy arm jerks or foaming at the mouth & I'm guessing your eyes weren't bulging & that there wasn't enough spittle to get me really wet :noway:

  • In order to lose weight you don't necessarily have to lift weights, your best bet would be to focus on cardio to shed the baby lbs you have gained. You may actually gain weight with lifting weights because as most agree muscle weighs more than fat.
You can try running/jogging/walking, elliptical, arc machine, any of those machines to help with your cardio.
You also have to remember that weight loss is 80% in what you put in your mouth and 20% of how much you move.

    :)
  • First, let me say thank you for your service as well as your husband!
Second, do you know the issue with your shoulder? I had surgery done on mine for a torn labrum. One thing I learned with therapy is you do NOT need a lot of weight to work it and get it strong again. Building all the small muscles around it helps take pressure off the major muscles when pulling, pushing or lifting. I would seek physical therapy to see if that helps.
As mentioned earlier on the responses, anything cardio will work for you. But you could even just try lifting 5-10 pound weights. Instead of doing the normal 8-10 3X, maybe do 15-20 3x. That was what I was told to do and my shoulder has gotten much better now. I have been back to push ups, poor pathetic attempts at pullups (lol) and using 20-35 pound weights.
Don't get discouraged. But I would seek advice from a physical therapist to get some direction.

I know the feeling, I use to run and play handball almost everyday and now I have osteoarthritis in my arms, hands and knees and I cannot lift more than 5 lbs. (doctor's orders) Zumba has become my friend, it fast, upbeat and most of all fun. Sometimes, I do test my limits and do run but not often and I take it easy so I can listen to my body, maybe the same will work for you. Yoga is also good and I find it relaxing. Good luck!
