breakfast

I notice that every time I eat breakfast I consume a significant amount more throughout the day. I know breakfast is supposed to kick-start the metabolism but it's not that I'm HUNGRIER throughout the day, I just get in the habit of eating. Does that happen to anyone else?

If I eat too early (before 9am) it does. If I wait until I get to work around 9am, I'm good. I do have a cup of some sort of milk (almond, coconut or cow's) with a scoop of protein powder after working out in the morning but anything solid gets me eating wayyy too many of my calories early in the morning and finding myself going over by dinner. My extremely unprofessional opinion is that the solid food jumpstarts my digestion

I don't notice that, but it depends on what I eat.

Protein packed and healthy breakfasts tend to stick with me longer, so I am not ready for lunch at 10:30am.

I like oatmeal, greek yogurt, eggs, etc.

If I eat cereal, or other heavy sugary items, I'm never satisfied long.

Every time someone says that a kitten dies somewhere. :frown:

    Breakfast does not kick-start metabolism.

ETA: Metabolism does not stop because we sleep. Unless you're a vampire that is.

  • It depends on what I eat. When I have something like eggs with a slice of whole wheat toast, I'm usually not hungry at all until lunch time. If I have something really carb heavy like cereal it seems to give me the munchies.

ETA - just realized I posted the same thing a PP posted. *face-palm* Totally true though!

I noticed the same thing happens to me; no matter what I eat, if it's too early, I'm ravenous for the rest of the day. Besides that, I'm never hungry in the morning anyway, so I'm basically forcing down food that has a negative effect the whole day and didn't even want it! I just stopped eating breakfast, worked for me. (Just FYI, that whole "kick starting the metabolism" thing is bunk, so if that's your only reason to do it, maybe you shouldn't.)
  • thanks everyone! all of you helped a lot. I know my metabolism doesn't stop when I sleep (I actually heard it works harder when we sleep than when we watch TV) but I always heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day so I kept with it. I'm generally not hungry in the morning so I stick with coffee and maybe an apple or something but the other day I had oatmeal and for the rest of the day, I couldn't stop eating. I realized though it wasn't out of hunger but boredom/habit. I guess I'll just stick to my coffee

:drinker: Some people don't do well with breakfast, I'm one of them as well. Timing of your meals don't matter as long as you reach your goals.
