I've seen a couple of people mention something about taking the # of fiber away from the # of carbs. for ex if something has 12 carbs and 4g of fiber then its really only like 8 carbs

is this true?

i always seem to go over on carbs, but if this is true then it puts me at a good amount lol!

It depends on who you ask............

That whole subtract fiber thing came from The Atkins Diet as Dr Atkins allowed you to subtract fiber because it is not digestible and in turn it allows you to eat more.

I count whole carbs now days, but I try not to eat any processed foods these days and I switched to a different eating plan that is lower carb than Atkins.
  • The method I was instructed to use by my trainer is to add the carbs and sugar together, then substract the fiber.

Carbs are sugar, so why would you add them together. That sounds absolutely absurd to me.

I would love to hear the logic for that.

subtracting the fiber from the carbs kinda made sense to me, but adding the sugars...that doesn't sound right to me, i duno. that puts my carbs crazy over

My nutritionist told me to substract the fiber from the carbs and that will give you the Net Carbs.

For example like you said: 12 Carbs - 4 Fiber = 8 Net Carbs

Yes, that is taken from the Atkins Nutritional Approach.
